No, I don't believe it has the purpose of profoundly changing one's worldview about anything. It is "moe seinen" and simply meant to be relaxing.

"random and shallow" could be applied to almost every 4-koma japanese comedy series in existence... was there a point?

Those 3 sentences I posted were clear enough, there's no need to say more as that would be over analyzing this simple show; funny you should be so ticked about it, considering:

I'm not sure why you interpret that as "ticked".... more like ---> "and........ so?".

Biggest problem I have so far with what I've seen -- is that the animation frame rate seems extremely low to the point of almost feeling like I'm getting a slide show at times. otoh, the art and coloring is actually better than expected. As for content -- they're simply following segments of the manga with its mild silly jokes: not nearly the punch of Paniponidash but more energetic than Hidamari Sketch.

I can see it now! The girls of K-ON! perform the theme song for the Color Rangers! Just a random thought. Back to looking forward to more of this.

GA does have a sister series for this season (though like this thread, it's staying on the down-low. And I'm fine with that.)

Kisaragi and Kanamemo's Kana, from the Kirara website banner.

Sister series? What is exactly the relationship between the two?

Both originate from Kirara. A minor correlation, but it does exist.

Does it have to be specifically deep?

It IS supposed to be random chaotic fun so looking for a deep story down the line is misplaced expectations.

Like I said, Hidamari Sketch and K-On! are featured in the same magazine.

All the more reason; since I enjoyed K-on! but dropped Hidamari Sketch.

Aye. Hidamari's anime wasn't that impressive to me. What's with the out-of-order airing anyway?

Shinbo's "techniques" either are brilliant with a given series or utter fail... problem is he increasingly simply uses the same techniques on any series whether it is appropriate for the material or not.

I get the impression with GA that they're *trying* to do something somewhat Shinbo-esque (PPD, Hidamari) but probably *should* have done an adaptation with more storyline continuity (L*S-style or Sketchbook).

I'll probably stick with GA for the season (relaxing distraction), though.

managed to watch the ep 1 raws,

err, uh, art of Pictograms? & why do i think the tomboyish Red Ranger is the most hawt of the team?

& during that Ranger segment, i thought that someone would make a bad joke at the Black Ranger's "the hose of white goo of doom",
sprayed at that big book

eyah, its beginning to look like this series won't get picked up by anyone (a common problem in the summertime since everyone is often scattered about).

See, that is how it works... I lament and the gods answer Whee, its even one of my reliably liked fansub groups.

Torrent added to AS lists (will be a few moments before it shows) and request placed to have thread moved to fansubs.

edit: (I initially bobbled when adding the torrent to the database -- it should be fine now :P )
note: (the scarywater website listings for Ayako files are a fairly large unsorted mess, "F3" key is your friend)

Mmm...not really my kindof show. Guess I'll give it another episode or two, but felt far too much like a literal 4-koma chopped up compartmentalized little stories and all...

I guess originally when I read the synopsis I was thinking Sketchbook, but this is just...yea...A more continuous flow to the story woulda been...nice. Honestly can't stand reading 4-koma's, even ones from shows I enjoyed like the aforementioned Sketchbook.

An encode's several hours off, but it looks like Kisaragi had the ED today. New lyrics and a new tune, most likely, will come with it.

(I can't wait for Noda's version.)
