This show is madness. It's just so hyper from start until finish, i mean if you blink at least once i'm sure you'll miss a joke out. It's completely different to the slow relaxing Sketchbook ~Full colors~, though they both have their own thing going on.

I loved it anyway, especially the color warrior scene.

It's as if Sketchbook ~ Full Colors were somehow merged with Azumanga Daioh! I loved it! I don't know how they did it, but they somehow made this episode seem like a collection of four-panel comics.

This anime and Element Hunters both seem to be the "sneak in some book-learnin'" type shows!

Well it is based on a 4-koma manga.

But yeah i know what you mean. They really capture the 4-koma spirit.

Seem you say? Did you watch episode 2 of Element Hunters yet?

It's not really a bad thing, we're too spoiled with knowledge to enjoy it.

I've heard the voice Sawashiro Miyuki is using in the past, so i'm alright there, though i agree with the other roles.

I meant that in an entirely complimentary way. Usually I can pick up on a familiar voice right away because I hear traces of past roles, but because I can't this time, even knowing who's voicing who, I give them major props for that.

On the first episode: Yeah I was kind of just sitting there in a daze for 23 minutes, but I really liked it in a way, My favorite parts were making the dried paint into pudding, Noda-chan (I THINK) fitting herself into the hallway corner, and honestly that is so true, it's strangely relaxing, and lastly Picto-san. Poor Picto-san.

Very cute. Though I swear those glasses are going to fall off of that girl's face o_O

I guess originally when I read the synopsis I was thinking Sketchbook, but this is just...yea...A more continuous flow to the story woulda been...nice. Honestly can't stand reading 4-koma's, even ones from shows I enjoyed like the aforementioned Sketchbook.
Well, for me, yonkomas are as natural as breathing, thanks to this Hong Kong comics master named Alfonso Wong. If the name doesn't ring a bell, then Old Master Q should. I must be fair, though. Of the three yonkoma to anime series I've seen (Lucky Star, Hidamari, K-On), none really hit high notes for me.

Ah good o' Master Q and Potato face, brings back memories

And I would currently rank this over Sketchbook purely due to a higher enjoyment factor coming from GA.

*Off to watch ep 2*

Good to see that subs are coming out for this series too, about damn time no? ^^

ep 2

Tomokane's version of "Coloring palettes" was last week, this week was Kisaragi's, and I have no doubt there are three more waiting in the wings.

I might have lost a few IQ points watching this show; it's adorable though.

Yeah I'm just not feeling this at all. It's more Lucky Star than either Azu or Sketchbook, but it doesn't have the fun cultural references LS had.

That's because it's not a reference show, it's an art related show, and it does a damn good job at it.

Sketchbook was art related too, loved that show. This is stylistically more like Lucky Star I mean in that it's very conversation/observation heavy humor but... not that funny. Of course these things are subjective.

L*S anime adaptation was unusual... its source didn't use "pop culture references" for the funny - that was grafted on by KyoAni (as was the entire Lucky Channel bit). Paniponidash was a bit different in that the source already made a fair amount of cultural reference gags. I shudder to think if something like AzuDa or Sketchbook had been buried in such stuff (at least Sketchbook restrained itself to homaging its "sister" ARIA). Hyakko actually comes to mind more often watching this series.

As for GA, I don't think this series is "brilliant" but it does seem to be a nice escapist bit of happy fluff and they seem to be staying relatively true to the source. I wonder if they're using this as a test flight for doing the mangaka's other deeper work - Kuro (Shoulder-a-Coffin Girl).
