The reasoning I remember reading was that "Kobato" means dove while "Dobato" means pigeon, which all feeds into my "Kobato is really a bird' theory.

Okay, double post but since it's two days and I bring youtube links I think I'm good. Here is a little blurb from a Japanese TV show (I think?) that seems to talk about CSS, TRC, and then shifts gears into Kobato. New images from the first episode (and I recognize the scenes, it looks like the first episode will combine two of the exam chapters) and you can kinda hear the opening in the background. Better yet, Kobato isn't freaking out the entire time so you get a better feel for her voice as well (so go click on the link if you haven't yet!).

Yeah i checked that out this morning. As expected, Kobato's voice was rushed so to speak for the 30 second preview, though here with a more spaced out time, it's more solid.

Oh god Inada Tetsu's insane shout. He's so perfect for the role.

I'm a little puzzled, it almost looked like Iroyogi's mouth wasn't flapping in time to the voice, I'm hoping that was just the trailer since it was really throwing me off.

It's looking great! But the narrator's voice in that program annoyed the hell out of me.

Yeah it looks to be just the trailer. I've come across similar thins before in episode previews/trailers such as this.

Am I the only one who is disappointed with the animation?
The Newtype scans looked so shiny, and the trailer is just.... ugly. ;_;

Care to share why you think the trailer looks ugly?

Just to let people know, Nanase Ohkawa has confirmed on the official CLAMP website that she wrote the script for the first episode which airs on October 6th. The episode title is 'Wishing Girl...'.

I'm sure i'm not the only one that hopes she ends up writing for more then just the first episode.

Not sure but if you ask me, it's the other way around. The trailer looks shiny too.

You could well be the only one. I think the animation looks really vital and charming. Certainly there is lots of detail in the character designs, and the colours are captured well in the designs.

Sorry, I didn't want to ruin anyone's fun, I was just somewhat disappointed.
I guess it's Kobato's hair that's bothering me. It just seemed kind of... weird at times.

On a more positive note, I like the music and the voice actors.

So you go from saying the animation bothers you, and now it's just Kobato's hair?

Seems like its the same misconception of style/design and animation.

How the characters look is not animation, it is design and style. How the characters move and interact, that is animation.

And most of the time, magazine illustrations will look different from what's in the anime, simply because its done by different artists. Magazine illustrators also have longer time to draw their pictures compared to animators drawing their frames, resulting in better looking characters most of the time.

So yes, you can dislike the style, but you can't blame animation for it.

It's the same thing people complaining about K-on's style. The animation in K-on is stunning compared to other anime with the same genre. I can understand some people not liking the style, I'm the very-few people who likes the k-on-fied art style. Kobato style looks great to me, I can't see any thing they got to improve upon. The colours could look a little more pastel-ly.

I thought that the quality of the animation was very good. When you compare this anime with titles from some 10 years ago, like Card Captor Sakura, you see that the quality of animation has improved quite a bit over the years. Also, Madhouse seems to be the best studio nowadays, quality wise.

I also think that if they used more pastel-ly colours the art would look more stylish. But maybe Madhouse decided not to use it, since it would probably make the anime look dated.

Pastel colors wouldn't have worked for Kobato. I'm glad they didn't use them.

There was a Kobato press conference that aired the first episode yesterday. Nothing much new was already said, though the director did mention that every episode will have a new outfit for Kobato (CLAMP announced this a few months back), and that the four seasons will play a part in the story. I'm guessing that means we'll see Kobato in Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn. We kinda do in the manga already, which is good.

It's a sad commentary on the state of animation that news about the character's clothing changing regularly throughout the series would be considered newsworthy enough to mention.

Not really, i mean this is CLAMP we're talking about. It's like the return of Sakura's battle costume always changing in Cardcaptor Sakura.

This announcement actually means a lot to CLAMP fans.

^^ Not sure if my true meaning came across in my last post.

Just to be sure, what I meant was that changing clothes as the days change ought to be the norm in anime, not a special event worth noting in a special announcement. (Daily use uniforms being the exception to the changing clothes rule, of course.) I wasn't knocking CLAMP for changing Kobato's clothes each episode rather than knocking all the other anime series that don't make such changes.

No i clearly understood what you meant.

I know you weren't knocking CLAMP, i'm just saying that it's an important announcement that i'm glad was mentioned yet again by another member who's working on the adaptation. Also like i said, this is just like the announcement for the different battle costumes in each episode for CCS.
