And she doesn't go around telling everyone her name constantly either.

Also, she doesn't speak like she has severe throat cancer.

If Tsuruya's Batman, who's Robin? What about the Joker?

Robin is Mikuru. The Joker is Koizumi.

Tsuruya is a guest-star, so she can't bring her allies and villains into the limelight as it would disrupt Haruhi's story. But we DO know she take long holidays at far away places, or so she claimed...

WHY DOES THIS WORK SO WELLLL

Maybe each character having a counterpart from a Batman comic was Nagaru Tanigawa's intention all along?

This is the same question we asked when we first started thinking about Seitenkan. Don't worry, it's normal.

I'd say he was more trying to go for references to Eva, but hey, if it works, why not.

By that logic (or at least, by my logic), is there a Batman counterpart for all Eva characters? It's not like characters lacking parents in that series is anything rare.

No, unfortunately.

Kaworu isn't as Joker-y as Koizumi is, and never has a big enough presence in the show...

And Tsuruya's only real counterpart would be Misato, and she's certainly not Batman.

Peanuts, actually. We've been over this... ^_^

Batman versus Tsuruya-sama result:

They both quickly deduce that facing off against each other only serves their enemies' purposes, but still can't help but fight for several hours anyway, just for shits and giggles. When their enemies (Koizumi and the Joker) feel they've tired each other down enough to leave an opening, they are attacked, and have to team up to take out the pair of grinning idiots. They depart victorious, having each gained considerable respect for the other.

How do you say: "Hello, I'm just a taxi driver passing by." in Japanese?

"Shits and giggles" seems like it could be the reason Tsuruya does anything.

Nah, it's just that Haruhi is merely a collection of old and well-known (character) tropes arranged in an unusual manner. It's to be expected that there's a lot of overlap with other works once you take the characters out of the setting.

So like every crossover fight EVER.

...Perfect.

And that is why she is so awesome.

I was going to say this, actually, but it isn't entirely true... Kyon is fairly original, especially in anime which mostly relies on nondescript wussy protagonists.

Oddly makes more sense than the Kyon version of that...

The Deadpan Snarker isn't that unusual of a character type. The part that's unusual is having the snarker be the viewpoint character. That said, Kyon does take it a bit further than is usual.

That's because he's the viewpoint character. Half of the snark is in his thoughts and narration.

Which is probably why he comes off as so much more of an asshole in the books...
