How does one do a proper type setting...
It is much more labour intensive than it l thought it would be or am I using the wrong tools?
I use virtualdub to try to do a proper type set. The problem is when you move frame by frame you can't hear the voice(at least I can't) and not all voice(over) you would see lips moving. So, I would like some hints/pointer to make type setting little easier. Last edited by brood-faun; 2004-02-19 at 21:45. |

what are you trying to do? is it to color subs depending on character or on/off screen? if it is, I would use a different style for each, watch the whole episode, and note every time where it should be off/on . I don't fancy preview because they sometimes are slower than real , so you get confused on you timing!
If you are trying to position subs in the video ( such as to tranlaste a sign ) you could use the grid filter, it's pretty ugly, but it can turn out very useful!

Thanks for your response. Actually, I am trying insert a sub in an anime and trying to do a proper timing(i.e. lips matching the sub). I could watch it on a video player and note down the time, but problem is most video player shows time in seconds and too fast. Some instances I'll need less than a second.
I thinking if there is tools out there that let me move the video clip by couple frames at a time and hear the voice at the same time. |

That's awfuly precise and a fool's quest if you ask me. If you said audio start to sub start, accuracy 1/100s, then I'd suggest Audacity + Virtualdub. |
