Well, that's today's anime.
In ten years, we will (probably) forget the anime of today's because they are so similar to each others, but we are unlikely to ever forget RAINBOW since it stands out during its time. In a good, GRIMDARK way.

In fact, if done right, RAINBOW can stands out in the history of anime...

Whoah! And now for something completely different. Like, actual gritty drama, with deep downs and sudden high ups. I can see why it could seem to have gone overboard, but it worked for me. Koyama Rikiya as Sakuragi: just perfect. My only problem might be not wanting to spend however many weeks in hell.

Lol, melodrama (and way, waaaaay ham of a bgm). I didn't really expect much to be honest (after hearing it'd be directed by the guy who did Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro), still I didn't imagine something this awkward and mawkish.

@fevvers (damn why my quick post quote missed)

Which part of its is awkward if you care to explain ?
well if do you mean the setting, i don't find its awkward because I know that "Hell" is really does exist.
And thats occur at least 40 year on my country....

But if what you mean is directing or technical aspect...
well its matter of taste really, I personally feel think the directing is really similar to the Mouryou no Hako, and that a good things.

And i look many people complaining about the narrator too, which i finds its weird... Hayashibara Megumi doing a great job for this, her voice really building the moods of viewer (or at least for me lol). BUT Masato Hagiwara will be more Perfect choice's ...

Damn MADHOUSE I miss his voice ;_;

How do you say...

I'm watching it for the grit. Show is hardcore, weither it's realistic or not. Plus it has Shun Oguri in it, and that's pretty cool.

Dark, brooding, violent and oppressive with a small yet strong rainbow of hopeful light at the end. I've probably only seen this in anime twice or thrice.

This reminded me alot of the film Sleepers. Love the characters. This will probably be the only "serious" anime of the season I'll end up following, as I found Nightraid pretty boring.

Yes, I was reminded of that film as well--actually I feel like that is a downside, since I've certainly seen a group of young friends languishing away in brutal juvenile detention before, but I'll see how this goes.

Damn episode 2 was some strong stuff. The episode was well executed from the music and animation. I do feel bad for Joe and Megu, I hope they meet again someday but that is probably just wishful thinking.

Second ep's sealed the deal for me...I'm definitely going to follow this. While it can be a little melodramatic, it's compelling and by FAR the most interesting series I've looked into this season.

6 of 7?

In the opening of the song when they pass by the tree with the carved markings, why is there only 6 of them? Did anyone notice that as well?

Aren't there seven of them in prison right now? This might be a lead onto something, a possible death, maybe?

What do you guys think and who is missing when they pose near the tree?
