Rurouni Kenshin Kinema-ban *reboot*

Has anyone else read the first two chapters that have been released?
What are your thoughts?

I've been a fan of this series for over 10 years so I couldn't help having high expectations... but this is just terrible so far.

Why is Nobuhiro Watsuki so desperate for attention/hit series he has resorted to milking his masterpiece. Why would a manga-ka with any respect for himself, reboot his own series?

The major villains have been thrown into a hodgepodge as Kanryuu's (a minor villain at best) cronies, with even a couple Jinchuu-arc villains as part of the mix. Why? These characters had absolutely no connections to one another but now they're controlled by one head honcho? And he's not even Shishio?

The pacing is too fast with the emphasis on fights and action scenes that happen for no apparent reason other than the fact that the villains draw sticks to see who gets a first go at Kenshin. o_O

It looks as though every chapter is going to be Kenshin against bad guy #1, 2, 3, and so forth with some of em becoming good, most of em staying bad.

Watsuki, what have you done to Kenshin? When was this series just a mindless succession through "villain of the week?" You could have atleast shown some effort to introduce them in a more creative, logical manner. D:

The only, and I repeat, only good thing is the artwork since it's just more modern, I'm sure many fans would still prefer his old style since it's simply a matter of taste.

I may be reading a few more chapters but as of now it's one of the worst decisions I think any manga-ka could make for himself/herself. Worse still because this is one of Japan's best and for me, my favourite series of all time.

As far as I know, this is only a short series made to capitalize on the live action movie: that's why it seems so rushed.

Because bills don't pay themselves, and he hasn't had a hit the same size since RK ended. Even Busou Renkin fell rather short of that level. (I predict the same thing will happen to Akamatsu Ken after aborting Negima).

Watsuki-sensei is doing just fine - he's doing this strictly as a synergy thing for the L-A movie, which everyone wants to do well.

I didn't think the first two chapters were terrible by any means - rushed, yes, but that's a necessity of their purpose. I'll take them over those ridiculous Okada OVAs any day.

Meh...to many reboots these days...

Too much Kenshin in the 90's and Dragonball made me burn out on these 2 animes.

It's a reboot for the movie. kinema = old Japanese for cinema.
The story is changed to match closer to the film, I'm sure.

You know how anytime there's a live-action movie of *insert superhero name*, there's always a theatrical setting comic book that reflects it? Or even a cartoon series?

Same. Thing.

No need to get your panties in a knot. He's not re-writing canon.

That being said, like anything of this ilk, it's pretty meh.

New chapter released. It focuses on Kenshin and Saito's duel. Watsuki created one new technique for Kenshin. Only 18 pages...
