Early 2010.

This looks unspeakably awesome. Also, I see no indication of this being set in Afghanistan or anything of the sort. The basic premise is post-Soviet breakup 1991 and the emergence of the private military company. They're just random soldiers of fortune involved in a civil war in the desert. Their history might go back to the Vietnam War (the original setting of the Cat Shit One manga), and maybe they're war buddies.

I wouldn't say this mirrors MGS4 entirely, but I think their humor might resemble Hideo Kojima's, where they take themselves seriously 90% of the time and then throw a weird one at you when you least expect it. They're animals, so there's plenty of irreverent humor to throw in while they do all the realistic fighting and whatnot.

[EDIT]: This studio is really good at this stuff. They did the MGS4 cover art.

So I'd say there's no doubt people call it "MGS4 with furries" ?

I read the first 2 volumes of the comic and will soon read the 3rd.

I have some questions but do't really want to come across any spoilers.

First... How will they tie the characters into this war? If the time line is the same, wouldn't they be REALLY old if they also fought in Nam?

Second...
Spoiler for Cat shit one manga and anime:

Third...
Does this animation have the same writer as the original series?

Man, I'm not sure what's wrong with the title either. It's either some weird reference to Cait Sith or Cat Sėth. Anyways, I'm also interested in animals with guns!

I'm almost afraid to point this out to certain acquaintances who like anthropomorph stories ..... they'll be glomping all over it.

The trailer was quite disconcerting to watch.. in a good way. Was imagining "this is as if Pixar did a grim violent film"...

Reminded me of various anthropomorphic comics I used to read in the early 90s that were set in WW2.. or maybe even glimmers of Maus.

You know, it's been making me think a lot about 'Maus' as well. You think the original artist was inspired by that book (or idea)?

He did mention that the TV show 'Tour of Duty' was his main source of inspiration. "I could do that... with bunnies!" he said.

I'm really hopping there's a pay off to the comic. It's been a good read so far, but if this 3rd volume doesn't have closure then I may be let down a little.

The original manga was taking place in Vietnam War, and the Vietnamese were portrayed as cats. Hence the title.
Arabians are portrayed as camels, so this really should be changed to Camel Shit One or something.

Ethnic portrayal by animals:
American > Rabbits
Vietnamese > Cats
French > Pigs
Chinese > Panda Bears
Japanese > Apes
Russian > Bears
Korean > Dogs
British > Rats
Australian > Kangaroos or Koala Bears
German > Foxes
Arabians > Camels or Sheeps
Ah brill, there's a thread for this. Someone tossed me the trailer last week, and i was wondering 'is this a joke'?!
(aparently not)
I'm not into war stories much, but for some reason, sticking the soldiers into animals, makes it appealing xD
And thanks for the critter analysis, you can bet someone people from various countries will be looking closely at their animal representatives.

French pigs?
Korean Dogs?
American Rabbits? (I'd have thought bear tbh)
Aussie, Chinese and Arabians, seem to be the only 'stereotypical' association with their animals.

But definitely interesting, will be keeping tabs on here ^^

Wouldn't "Eagle" fit Americans better?

I know, I know, I was just responding to the above poster suggesting bulls and horses.

But yeah, that is really clever. United States of America General Infantry... USAGI... rabbit. Very clever.

This is one show I'll be looking out for, definitely.

In most wargaming simulations, Americans tend to be quick to take cover (i.e. run like hell) but then very quick to regroup and recover morale to charge back in.
So rabbits are an interesting choice (don't corner one). The "usagi" riff is great though

Japanese::apes... are these renditions of the "snow monkeys" that lounge in the hot springs in Japan? That'd be nifty.

Before people get riled up about an animal choice, remember that cultural values placed on different animals differs in different cultures -- so don't take offense before you know whats going on.

Some of the choices seem a bit ironic
