I don't know if "lonely" is the word I'd use, even where it's applicable (some here obviously watch anime with other people, so it's a downright sociable hobby for them).

However, I would say that anime is a largely solitary hobby for me.

But, then, that's fine. My other main entertainment hobby is watching pro hockey (NHL usually). And I tend to do that with other people.

So, having a hobby of sorts that I can engage in when nobody is available to hang out with is kind of good, actually.

Nope, not really I think, in our country shounen animes are really talked about specially with my classmates here.

An anime is/can be a lonely hobby depending where you live. It all depends on the open-mindedness of the people around you.

Quite frankly, i'm very lonely. Only my sister to talk to, and she is.. well, not an otaku int he strictest sense, just watches anime.

I live in WV, and all the hate serious needs to stop. If they haven't realized, World War II has ended, let the past be. Just because such and such fought and died in war or such and such survived it, that has no bearing on the present.

Anime is quite lonely where I live, since everyone is content on being relics in the past. Even the teenagers hate japanese products/foreign products.

This is a mockery, as most fans that do watch anime consider Naruto the best. Urghh... They seriously need to watch besides that crash course. Darker then Black, or the vintage animes could help them awake from a sad nightmare. xD

Ah.. crap.. I know a little about your background from the D thread, I understand the first sentence.. I have a couple people who i introduced anime to who rather enjoy it, even my playboy of a nephew ^^.. Enjoyed my mahoromatic, of all things...

sorry what does WV stand for..? -.- and I agree with you. sure japan and germany were at war with america and england and france etc but seriously... back then there were different soldiers, different leaders and different circumstances. everything has changed..

As the boss said from mgs3 "Politics are fickle, they change with the times." She also said something about enemies and friends changing constantly. It's all about who's in charge.

+ I have no desire to watch naruto.. I'm good just sticking with my romance animes..

Looking at this forum it does not need to be a lonely hobby

But I may not be the best person to ask, I play my guitar by myself, I ride my bike alone (and took off the neccessities to take on a passenger)
and I watch my anime in solitude

Well my husband (then boyfriend) got me started in anime! First was 'You're Under Arrest' then 'Ah My Goddess'. The rest as they say is history. Except he is a U.S. Marine!

I'm probably the only on within a 100km radius of my house that seriously likes anime. And I don't count people that watch Bleach and Naruto (not that there's anything wrong with that) because that's the only anime they watched. It's like when you watched Pokemon when you were younger and didn't know it was an 'anime'.

The other day I met a classmate that said he watched Bleach, and somehow the topic ended up in me mentioning the term 'moe' which in turn he just gave me a confused stare.

In short, I do not know a single local person who watches any anime I do or any anime that has been aired within the last year or so.

Well, I guess I would have to agree is does get lonely sometimes. Especially when you really get into an anime and you have noone in real life who likes it too to talk with. I wonder what it was like liking something like anime back when the internet didn't exist? Now that must have been lonely.

The school I went in New York was like that too. For Asians things like manga and anime to lesser degree is pretty norm. It was quite nice to have people to talk about anime and manga casually, I have to admit that is one of the things that I miss right now.

Once you get to university you'll generally find an anime club, so you don't have to watch alone. Of course whether the other club members share your taste in anime is another thing, so I would guess what you gain in company you might lose in choice; i.e. you won't necessarily get to watch everything you want to.

I tend to have a rather specific taste, so I don't participate in the university club, but I do every so often discuss anime with my friends.

I would guess West Virginia. It is a state that is economically deprived and suffers from an exodus of its youth, although it's not the only state to suffer the latter problem. It is (perhaps unfairly) stereotyped as being a culturally isolated; Arbitres would be the best person to report on that, but another thread would probably be the correct venue .

Yeah, it tends to be something a lot of us watch alone...luckily my wife watches a lot of with me, she has a great sense of humor as she laughs at the goofy eechi stuff I sometimes watch...

Find the school in NSW with the highest percentage of asians, and a minority of Indians, and you've found meh. XD
