Cyberpunk:
Bubblegum Crisis Neo Tokyo 2040:A devastating earthquake strikes Tokyo, leaving the city in ruins. Man's only hope is to use boomers, an artificial humanoid form. Everything seems perfect until some of the boomers go crazy and start killing people. The only hope of stopping them is the Knight Sabers, a group of 4 female heroes in form-fitting power suits, with which they can perform amazing feats of strength and agility.

Akira:The year is 2019. Delinquent biker gangs rule the streets of NeoTokyo, a city devastated by the mass destruction of a mysterious energy wave. In order to unlock the secrets of Akira, Tetsuo, an unlikely subject, is forced into unleashing his hidden powers, at the cost of his friends, his body, and his sanity.

Ghost In The Shell:A mysterious new hacker known only as the Puppet Master threatens to create chaos, erasing and rewriting the memories of his victims: humans who have cast away their physical body to become cyborgs. Is he an evil genius, or could he signal the beginning of a new age in the relationship between man and machine?

The Animatrix:Witness the true beginning of the Matrix: how men created the machines and how those machines stood up against their masters, and the effects of the great war that waged between them, which in the end led to the fall of mankind. Watch the ship Osiris and its efforts to warn the remaining humans of the imminent attack; follow a champion who happens to break free from the Matrix; explore the exploitation of a glitch in the overall system; observe the story of the Kid and how he was found by Neo; travel with an investigator who tracks the well-known hacker Trinity; and learn the secrets of the Matrix in other wondrous ways.

Steampunk:
Steamboy:As London prepares for the first World Expo, the young Ray Steam receives a package containing the Steam Ball, a small and incredibly powerful engine containing hyper-pressurized steam. Developed by Ray’s father and grandfather in America under the supervision of (and funded by) the O’Hara Foundation, the Steam Ball could prove to be an asset to civilization or a great danger. But after Ray finds out that the Steam Ball must not fall into the O’Hara Foundation’s hands, he sets forth on a mission to keep the item safe and away from those who would use it to fuel a brutal war...

I'll toss in another vote for Ghost in the Shell and Serial Experiments Lain. Ghost in the Shell is probably the "must watch" in the cyberpunk genre. Lain is good, but it's strange as hell.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought cyberpunk is when the main idea revolves around artificial inteligence. so more than half your list doesnt fit the criteria.

It doesn't have to necessarily involve AI. I wouldn't consider much of that list cyberpunk, though. Typically involves a dystopian future, low living, high technology; a protagonist surviving on the darker fringes of society, etc.. Though some sort of existential internet story like Lain is a shoe-in I guess, because of Neuromancer.

"Cyberpunk is a science fiction genre noted for its focus on "high tech and low life".[1] The name is a portmanteau of cybernetics and punk and was originally coined by Bruce Bethke as the title of his short story "Cyberpunk," published in 1983,[2] It features advanced science, such as information technology and cybernetics, coupled with a degree of breakdown or radical change in the social order."
with that said maybe
Trigun..
Texhnolyze

Don't be this sad ^^; the op asked for an anime and the only anime adaption of Alita are 2 OAVs who do not cover not even 1/10 of the story.

I have one sitting in the bookshelf just across the room from me right now.

It's not my favorite series, but my daughter liked it. After watching it twice in subs, we bought it.
