Perfect. That's perfect.

Now all we're missing is the real McCoy.

And a suitable "Enterprising Young Maidens" scene when Marika flies up to the bentenmaru for the first time...

(I started a social group for MP, if anyone's interested.)

For female crew in the original Star Trek, the uniform tunic doubled as a skirt. A very mini miniskirt. It's a one-piece outfit.

I tell ya - I continue to really enjoy this series.

Excellent material. And I liked the addition of combat in the second half of the ep. Marika is a pretty sharp cookie when it comes down to it - not just mental smarts, but intuitive smarts and able to make split second decisions when needed. And the crew she is with at the moment are not far behind - a shrewd crew!

All that said, I liked the fact that the girls were not just able to get away with whatever they wanted and were put in serious difficulty. And it was Marika's smarts that pulled their bacon out of the fire. Thoroughly enjoyable. Also was happy (although maybe not too surprised in a way?) to see that Chiaki is also a pirate captain daughter herself! Huzzah for Marika's decision!

A 8/10 vote from me for ep 5.

I really like this series.

Personally I've always been partial to the theme introduced with The Wrath of Khan.

To me, the music reminds me of the age of sailing ships.

There was a nice touch at the end of episode 5. When Marika meets Ririka in the hall after they get back planetside, instead of her usual "Ririka-san" she says "Okaasan", which catches Ririka a bit off guard.

Well Marika is definately not Captain Taylor as she is confindent and skilled rather that aloof and lucky (but maybe skilled...you never can tell). Well will see what her crew is like to see if this will head into wacky territory, or be about what it has been so far...save with more piracy.

Post Ep 5 interview with Satou Tatsuo [First Part]

So the question that has been asked in the Loft Plus One event is being asked again. Of course, it was funnier hearing it live
Quote:

Q: Would you like to tell us how you got involved in this work?
Satou: I ran into Producer Ootsuki (Toshimichi) of King Records by chance at the end of 2008 at a station platform. "Tacchan, this time let's do SF. It's called "Miniskirt Space Pirate". Bye" And then we parted (lol). Then, I heard about it officially after new year, but I already had different job coming. Officially I started working on this in Summer 2009. The novels were only up to vol 2 then.
pg 2
There are other Q&A regarding "She's not a pirate yet", Kawamori, Akiman, Marika's hair etc .
Second part of the interview tomorrow.

p.s Asahi Novels also released Irresponsible Captain Taylor Super Deluxe Edition vol 1 last month
p.p.s Both novel and anime Marika are my waifu. Do not claim :P. Take what you can. Give nothing back!!

Wow, that's one comparison that I would never have considered. Yet, here's one parallel:

Both characters are entering into jobs - they did no know much about when they entered. Yet, they exhibit some natural talent to do their jobs - in stride.

However, if Marika has a ship's doctor similar to that in the Taylor series -- watch out!

Wouldn't that be including a ship when there was none?

Also, repromoting the Moretsu Pirates Appreciation Group until we somehow get a subforum. XD

Interesting. I suppose there may not be a pattern to how the privateer ships are named(of course, historically we have ships like Drake's The Golden Hind and I cannot seem to recall what Morgan's ship was called)

Love that fanart. I hope to see another one with Chiaki as Spock with a parfait in her hand though. I do wonder who would be Doctor "Bones" McCoy though?

Having space-sim games as one of my favourite genres (which seems to be all but dead recently unfortunately), I'm impressed with the gunner of Lightning II. For example in Elite II, it was hard enough to manually aim continuous beam weapons to get even a glancing hit at their max range of 3km. Now this guy was 400,000km away from the target, was probably not using speed of light weaponry, AND was using in effect pulse-fire shots.

Also makes me wonder why these type of anime (or light novels as this one is based on) don't use missiles as their main weaponry instead. I mean, if you're going to aim to be realistic, why not use the weapon a lot of people theorize would be the main one? But I guess energy weapons are so much cooler lols.

Now I wonder if we're going to get good ol' ship boarding action soon. I mean, if you're a pirate, you want the stolen goods to be as intact as possible. And blasting the enemy from far away with the intent of disabling is like 100x harder than just blowing them outright. And once disabled within short range, you still have to take over the enemy ship. So if this is gonna be a 'real' pirate show, I wanna see some firefights! (One of the reasons why I loved Legend of the Galactic Heroes so much XD)

Missles? Why would pirates use missles? Real pirates (crazy ones) prefer guns - even if they're beam lasers.

XD

Maybe because of this?
