help

I just finished Spice & Wolf and I really really LOVED it, so I was wondering if there are any other shows out there like that. I don't mind slow pacing or anything like that, but I don't like romance-romance shows, I need some action or something to balance it out.

While it's not exactly fantasy, what I find comes closest to Spice and Wolf is Crest of the Stars and its sequels. These shows take place in a galaxy controlled by a number of giant space nations, of which the largest are a human-offshoot race known as the Abh. The story follows the young Jinto Lin who is a human who has been inducted into the Abh nobility without knowing much about them as a people, and Lafiel, an equally young member of the Abh military who has ties to the Imperial Family. Like Spice and Wolf, the show is as much an exploration of the fictional universe and of the way that the different systems operate as it is about the characters and their adventures. It's highly successful at all of these elements though, and is one of the very best anime out there.

If you're looking for more fantasy fare, then there would be stuff like Twelve Kingdoms or Seirei no Moribito, but they get increasingly different from Spice and Wolf. They are still very good though, if only for the way they combine excellent world-building and great characterization.

twelve kingdoms...still dont get what people see in this series. the whole thing gets unrealistic real fast+animation fail+slow pacing(Daril Gukku doesnt mind that though).
Seirei no moribito...animation- WIN! story's a little weird.

the line between S & W and everything else is the flirty witty dialogue, not overly simplistic conversations.
Oh, and Daril Gukku, what do you want to see in other shows, that you liked in spice and wolf? there is no clone out there, but there might be shows that have the elements you enjoyed.

I like for the romance to stay unresolved, like in Spice and Wolf, where it's obvious they are interested and care for each other, but stick to flirting and all. I know that's kinda of weird request haha

I also liked the world building and focus on how the world worked in Spice and Wolf. Something without too many characters would be nice. Action is good as long as the story also has a plot besides FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT.

Thank you!

that taken into consideration, i definitely second Seirei no moribito. also check out Record of lodoss war.
they both have unresolved romance, but i enjoyed the flirting (of course its not as good as S&W). both are fantasy, i'm not sure if the world will be to your liking as you didnt really specify on that. lodoss war tends to be fight fight fight (although there's the elven girl you just have to see, she's the cutest thing), but you really dont have much choice.

All fantasy worlds are pretty much good with me. I'll go check out Record of Lodoss War tonight, thanks for your help

I sort of agree with you about Seirei no Moribito, but I still think that it's definitely worth checking out; if only because there are so few shows similar to it. On the matter of Twelve Kingdoms though, it's well-received enough that many viewers claim that it's one of their favorite shows. This seems to be a fairly common reaction, so you can chalk it up to a matter of different tastes.

In that case, the show that you're really looking for is Crest of the Stars. When I first saw Spice and Wolf, the Jinto-Lafiel relationship was about the first thing I thought of. On top of that, the way the universe works, for the alien Abh society, to politics, to war is pretty much Crest's biggest selling point.

Both of my other suggestions also qualify to lesser degrees - although there is no romance in Twelve Kingdoms, it more than makes up for it in terms of other kinds of relationships.
