Since this covers the period in which Horo is sick and feels cruddy for much of it (leaving her more open to "moe" behavior or ruminations of her deeper fears) - I'll just leave the over-moe as a guarded potential problem.

Now if they twist up the second season and downplay her crafty wise wolf aspects.... then we have a serious problem, imo.

So I finally realized what the "attached all-color Visual Novel" meant. It didn't mean we were getting a book for the computer, like Shinkyoku Polyphonica, or other such novels, instead it was literally an all color...visual novel O_o

Spoiler for All-Color Light Novel Images (3):

I've got it coming in the mail. Also downloading it, if I can find it. If not, I'll have to scan it myself!

lol . It's kind of a waste to translate it, unless you can turn it into a manga scanlation and keep the background colors where the text is. But seriously, did anybody else out there think it was going to be a computer-novel, like this:?

Watching the OVA was a big mistake on my part. Patience, patience, young man!

Although Lawrence did not notice, Horo is talking about lovesickness.
It is quoted from the proverb "even a doctor cannot cure a lovesickness".
A-ha. I could not help but get this "deja vu" feeling while watching the OVA.
Lawrence's remarks on hot-cold-dry food and four humours sounded especially familiar.

Now that Kaguya pointed out the correct translation, my memory got a bit better I've read it before, when doing my AS Biology course:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avicenna - since I don't have the full text with me...

They were rubbing each others noses, sort of wolf intimate greeting of each other, they were not trying to kiss each other all along.
Kiss as we understand it today is not that widespread and old. Other forms are not dead in our days either.

*recalls being greeted Horo-style in one of the northern trips*

Yes, that's also a traditional Inuit greeting amongst many other cultures.

It's a welcomed liscense in my book.

I find Funimation dubs to be generally good. For a lot of their dubs they seem to have actors that really fit the characters, although I think it'll be hard for any dub company to find an actor to accurately voice Horo.

If I had to pick english voice ctors for Horor and Lawrence I'd have Travis Willingham or Crispin Freeman as Lawrence and Wendee Lee or Tara Strong as Horo. Travis Willingham has worked with Funimation in the past so it wouldn't be beyond them to get him for the dub.

That's wonderful ... and no I don't really even want to think about them dubbing Horo :P that's a tall order to meet. Putting it on my budget forecast.

I really don't think there is any english voice actor who is currently, in large, a part of the anime dubbing community that can match Horo's voice. However there are voice actors out there that can match it enough to where it won't destroy her character.

I almost wish Funimation would scoute around for more actors, possibly unoticed ones. For Mushishi they had to explore all avenues to find actors considering how small the actor pool is for stuff like anime. They did a wonderful job with Mushishi and I consider it one of the best dubs of all time. Every episode had a different cast and for just about every single character the acting was superb. I think Funimation could achieve more quality dubs if they spent time searching around the acting community as they did for Mushishi. There are so many sleeper talents out there and you just never know what you'll find.

I don't expect it to turn out well.

I hope to be happily surprised, but I'm normally not.

As long as they give me subtitles and the japanese track, they can dub it in Swedish Chef "borkborkbork" for all I care. Morbid curiosity drives me to at least give it a chance though --- I actually didn't hate the L*S dub and few other recent efforts.

I don't see a problem with Holo either. She's sick. She realises she's in love and her companion is ignoring her for the competition. Holo is becoming more "human" with her interactions. She desires more intimate contact with Lawrence but envisions it from her species perspective and not a human one.

If she keeps up the "crafty and wise" superior stance for too long, she's not going to get the guy. She's really only that way because she's had more experiences with business not from specifically because of a species derived superiority. She can't stay with a pack and keep the guy. She has partially made the choice when she took a human form. She has to commit to being human imo. That dream is prob a partial realization that she can't go back anymore just like those pagan ways had to merge with Christianity.

Lawrence isn't a sheep. The problem is she's not giving him any human clues.

This could be a foreshadowing of things to come.

I loved the medieval music but thought the music at the beginning was too tin sounding.

@Vexx: L*S was from a different company. FUNi is still recovering from the D.Gray-man controversy and this post from the producer.

I'm watching this right now and remembering some issues I had with the first season. I hate it when anime go into "lecture mode" and a character starts explaining pointless crap. It might not be so bad if I was following the Japanese, but with subtitles I read the lines in a fraction of the time in which they are delivered, and the rest of the time I'm thinking about how boring and time-wasting it is to be told why apples are good for hydration.
