Romance anime with tomboy (or not so girly) female lead?

I can only think of a few...

Ranma 1/2
Revolutionary Girl Utena
DN Angel
Special A

EDIT: She doesn't have to be extremely tomboy just not annoyingly girly like Fushigi Yuugi, Fruits Basket, or Full Moon Wo Sagashite. XD Which I find myself hating.

Eccentric works too.. Like..

Gakuen Alice

Thanks so much in advance!

It seems to me the tomboyish female lead is more popular than the "traditional shy girl" type.

Shakugan no Shana, Suzumiya Harahi, Zero no Tsukaima, to name a few well known ones.

Himeko from Hime-chan's Ribbon is regularly called a tomboy and there's romance.
Although she might only qualify as a tomboy by 1992 standards.

How about Haruko in FLCL? Naota is certainly infatuated with her.

Isako in Dennou Coil has many characteristics of a tomboy. Whether a show about 10-11 year-olds can be classified as a romance is up to you.

Cross Game (currently airing)
Kimagure Orange Road (both female leads actually...)
Love Hina (Naru must be counted as a tomboy I think)

Hmm... those are the only straight romance I can think of with a Tomboy female lead.

There are plenty of mixed genre ones though:

Shakugan no Shana
Full Metal Panic
The Girl Who Lept Through Time

Hayate the Combat Bulter might count, depending on the definition of tomboy
Tenchi Muyo might count...
Chrono Crusade is often put in this category, but I don't think there is that much romance. Definitely a tomboy heroine lead though.

Also, I would suggest Maison Ikkoku.

A romantic comedy, the female lead Kyoko is certainly not a tomboy, but being older and a widow, is more mature, and less girlie. (When she interacts with her parents we also see hints that she used to be a Tomboy- she seems to regress when at home- sitting like a boy, becoming more aggressive and assertive, ect)

Nana, of course. One of the two main female leads is girly, but the other one is quite the tomboy.

Also, Marmalade Boy, Miki might not be a conventional tomboy but she is one, somehow (great at sports, clueless about stuff like makeup, etc).

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I'll definitely check them out. ^_^

escaflowne? i think she's not a tomboy..
She's in-between I'd say. Into track and field and wears her school uniform throughout the series.

I'd like to second the recommendation for Lovely Complex. Koizumi (the female lead) behaves in a very non-girly way which, along with a glaring height difference, complicates landing the guy she has her eye on.

Tenshi na Konamaiki is decent enough for a single pass, too.

I really liked Lovely Complex. Watched it last night.

And Hana Yori Dango.

I think I'll watch Rose of Versaille and/or Marmalade Boy next.

Anymore suggestions?

I'm going to be pretty busy.

I'm just recently getting back into the anime groove. I didn't watch any for at least a year.

Not so romance (just some) but check Hyakko out. If you can endure the 1st two chapters then the rest is excellent

Torako is like the most tomboyish girl i knows

Iku KASAHARA, Librarian First Class,
Kantō Library Base,
Library Defence Force

She's a librarian who picks up submachine guns (and various other assault weapons) to defend books against the evil forces of Japanese censors. She's a self-confessed tomboy who nevertheless cherishes girly memories of a "Prince Charming" who saved her favourite fairytale novel from the book-burning Media Improvement Brigade.

She and her colleagues at the Library Defence Force pledge to uphold the principles enshrined in Japan's Statement on Intellectual Freedom in Libraries (1979):
Article 4 : Libraries categorically oppose any type of censorship

1. Censorship has been practiced from time to time by governing authorities aiming to suppress the freedom of thought and speech of the people. A democratic society is founded on the freedom to know, and censorship has no room in such a society.

Censorship regulates libraries' acquisition activities in advance, and it further results in withdrawing materials from the shelves and discarding them from the library's collection. Libraries have had such bitter experiences and many examples of them can be clearly found in history and in the experiences of the people. Consequently, libraries categorically oppose against any type of censorship.

2. Similar effects of censorship can come from pressure and interference from private individuals, organisations or groups of people. Libraries shall oppose any type of suppression of thought and speech.

3. This suppression can easily cause self-regulation by librarians, forcing them to avoid acquiring books on controversial subjects. Libraries shall not be hampered by such a self-regulation but shall instead ensure the people's freedom to know.

When the freedom of libraries is imperiled, we librarians will work together and devote ourselves to secure this freedom.

Tune in for more over-the-top tomboy action and lovey-dovey romance at Toshokan Sensou (Library War), which aired last spring.

Oh, Library Wars sounds interesting!

Definitely not your typical anime.

Thanks. ^_^

I'll check out Hyakko too.

I'll see about those RayRay..

Though I did hate Fruits Basket. I thought Tohru was pretty girly/annoying. xD

Uotani isn't really a major character.
