I haven't seen this episode yet, but I was told that there wasn't any fan-service (meaning the undergarment shots and bra shots and all that rubbish) in this series (anime AND manga)!!

In the manga, yes, in the anime, no...KyoAni has a reputation for not doing panty flashes. With KyoAni, you get all or nothing it seems.

Just watched Ep 6.... and God, i probably need to rewatch it again to give out my thoughts. Too many remarkable moments to recall and describe in one go

First at the centre of the Ep, the live performance. I know many ppl say they don't like it, and true it's not mind breaking or outstanding. But i think the idea is quite creative, and it works for me, especially every time i think about the impact it will cause to another performance later in the series.

Ah yeah then we have Mio. Of course. It's her episode and we have lots of good moment: Chibi Mio, embarassed with being lefty and trying to switch her chopstick holding hand. Then Mio hit the moe mark again when she break down and beg Ritsu to switch with her, promising she will play both bass and drum.... (this short conversation was like the best i've seen this year, seriously).

Being in similar situation, I totally understand her when she act all calm but almost drop her tea cup. Then Yui's motivated line probably only have short-term effect , eh? ....

The pantsu moment, i heard briefly about it but didn't know the tripping part. Was happy that i was not spoiled about it before.

Now Ep 7 trhead...

I had a hard time deciding what to rate episode 6. After watching the episode many times, I can find only 3 things wrong with it. The first 18 minutes, approaches flawless. Excellent showing of the tension before a (first) performance, and how each of the 4 react to it. Very very entertaining.

But the last 6 minutes... besides the epic use of sound effects with some slapstick humor, and the most amazing rice bowl to appear on TV, my entertainment level took a nose dive staring with:

18:43 The Music Video Insert.

On my first pass through episode 6, I growled out 'Damn you Kyoto Ani' and was annoyed for the next 90 seconds. I very much wanted to see the girls sing and play, in their neat costumes, not watch a simulated late 60s music video, with 35% desert footage, 55% hippies, cops and cop cars, but only 10% of what makes this show interesting.

I want to see Mio sing and play the bass.
I want to see Yui play her guitar.
I want to see Ritsu playing her drums.
I want to see Mugi playing her keyboard.

On my next pass through the MV, Yui's voice was amusing, and her flip them the bird/dove/love and peace thing was amusing. The rest still fails to impress.

21:41 Tilt up to clouds, fade to different clouds, tilt down. Come on you can come up with a better passage of time edit than that -.- It is used a lot, but here it seemed more annoying than usual.

22:09 Bad, Bad jump cut, and probably scene layout too. A cut from a static medium shot to the same framing at the start of a pull out. Not to mention the girls expressions jump too. The whole pullout to cowering Mio seems to be a 'Fix it in Post' last minute patch job. A production blunder, no matter how you look at it.

Le sigh.

Episode 5 was very entertaining. Episode 6 was almost epic, but it fell flat at the end.

Of course they were trying something new, but it seemed like 80 seconds of filler (with about 20 seconds of that being a static shot of a desert highway i.e. ~25% of the MV).

So, yes it was new, trying not to do the 'cliché' of the unique Haruhi #12. But for me, it did not work. If the MV had more of the 4 girls, or less hippies, cops and desertscapes, it might have worked wonderfully.

So half the people hate the show for being a cutesy girl show about moe girls e.g. Haruhi... and the other half hate it for not being Haruhi.... Wow.

It may be a KyoAni anime, but its manga is in the same magazine as Hidamari Sketch. Expect lots of cute.

not half ..

it's just a minority prolly .. 0.1% of the whole anime fandom

though I like critics because they point things I normally overlook gives a new whole perspective on the anime .. but not to the extent of sharing their feelings of dissent
