I usually think developers arguing with fans can be risky, but this time it was pretty funny. All the reasons the dev makes are sensible ones, and fans who want the game to be more grim and dark have to look at the situation from a practical, developer standpoint as well as an artistic one and realize that many of their ideas just won't work in practice.

Uh... isn't this just a renaming of the sorceress? Well, there seem to be some fun new spells and hopefully they've learned how to make an even better game in time since D2, but what was the point in renaming the class?

Sorceress sort of refers to using potions. On the other hand wizzard is all about spells.
The name sounds more Diablo universe-ish anyway.

For one, they probably wanted a name that'll apply to both genders, since you do have the option to choose either the male and female version of each class. Having a male "sorceress" wouldn't really sound too good

Different label, same magick pew pew archtype.

A lot of impressive spells shown on the trailer, the Disintergrate "lazerbeam" and Time Stop most probably took inspiration from the SC2's mothership and warp ray XD

Looks like druid's tornado is also in wizard's spell arsenal now and there's a mirror image spell in there which looks pretty sexy.

Too bad the official trailer is done using game engine though. I want to see moar Blizzard's ultra sexy CGI.

It's just that the girls are a rebel sect to the male dominated magick club. But still practie the same school of magic. Atleast that's what i gather from the game info. Novel readers might know more. But either way, they can name it whatever they want but the magic user will always be the same ol glass cannon of fireworks.

But Wizard would better fit both genders, as opposed to "Sorcerer", which primarily implies masculinity.

I'm definitely going Wizard on D3, especially with the explanation of the new Rune system which customizes SPELLS

My thoughts exactly. I was the same way in D2, my Sorc was my favorite character, and this flavor of Wizard just has my name written all over it.

I am hoping that they introduce a changeling in one of the upcoming characters to be released. In D2, I was mostly using the werebear to my satisfactory and am hoping to something similar when D3 comes out.

Technically, sorcery refers specifically to black magic, especially that which is done with the aid of evil spirits and demons. Wizard is etymologically related to the word "wise" and basically implies a worldly person who knows how the world works and how to manipulate it.

"Wizard" as a description of a "rash young spellcaster" actually sounds kind of weird, to me. Well, in modern fantasy sorcerers, wizards, and mages are all pretty much different names for the same thing.

Edit: Oh yeah, post-D&D sorcery is often considered something innate whereas wizardry is something you study.
