Yea. It's too difficult reading discards to make determinations on opponent hand values.

If there's one thing I noticed, you were more concerned about defending about the player to the left -- and I would be too. Better to lose points to someone else, ya? Though, personally: I hate getting "ron'd", even if it is a 1-han hand.

In any event...

To answer your question: I suppose play tiles dangerous to the player on the right, by which, you actually did that for 3 turns: the 9-sou, Xia, 5-pin, and 3-pin.

And as always, hindsight is a bitch. Especially for this scenario, this is one of those: "Holy #%!#$, WTF" situations.

Oh. Not as bad as this; what I did here is outright stupid. In fact, I fell into the player to the right by ron. Afterwards, I left the game in facepalming embarrassment.

NOTE: The dora.

Spoiler:

What's my excuse?

Spoiler:

That's an entire mangan right in my discards.

I have a feeling: that player was still under "offensive" mode failing to account 2-called dragons; and seeing that there's already 1-chun on the board, by which: "Gee, that person can't possibly have 2 already" (LOL)

To be fair. Via live tile, I played into someone's dansaigen - despite knowing that it was a freakin' bad idea. He already had the other chun and hatsu called. I hold my haku tile, and I rememeber my words, "Oh, I know I shouldn't do this, but I'm dropping it anyways!" Next thing I hear is "Ron", and I high-five the dude on his dansaigen.

To make things even, I cockblocked his kokushi last week. XD Ah, the fun things I do with this game.

But now, try this example: Go to East 3:

Hello, I've been playing mahjong for a while, but only recently did I choose to learn about it more in depth. So enlighten me, how did you screw up there? Aside from having a single tile wait. Also cmiiw, you'd have toitoi, chanta, yakuhai x3, and at least 4 dora should you get that 1sou, right? Wouldn't you be 1 han short for sanbaiman, or did I miss something?

Abortive Draw.

The hand ended as soon as that 4th kan was called. And I'm going to assume no Rinshan. So, that wiped out his potentially large hand.

Wow, so there's an abortive draw for too many kans. I only know the one where every players discard the same tile and where every player declares riichi.

Now I see why Regal screwed up there

Yep. Four kans is the limit, unless they're all called by one player for Suu Kansu. Even then, a fifth kan results in Abortive Draw. To be fair, this doesn't happen often.

Finally his hand would have been: Toi Toi, Double Nan (south), Honroto, Hatsu, and Dora 5. Counting that up: 12-han minimum.

Had he not kan'd the 9-wan -- he'd get one more dora off 1-sou, and that'll bring it up to 13.

Oh the pain.

===

Also: I called Riichi. What should this person drop?

Spoiler:

Don't mind my points. I was having a crappy game. XD

Hmm, I'd discard that 7man, but I take it that's your wait?

6-pin, obviously.

EDIT: Actually, 7m. Not only is it suji, but there's only one of it left, so basically the only way to wait on it (in a way that can still ron off people) would be either 68m or 89m, and it's a jigoku wait as well. I'm not playing against Hisa am I?

When I selected that wait... I looked to "my left", and thought: "Oh, it'd be so frikkin' nice to get Chankan here".

The existence of this video means...

... I don't have to make one myself. Though, if you know of any people interested in learning, this may be a good place for them to learn.

Oh, wait, you tsumo'd so that's not Renhou. It's closer to a Chihou then. But since you're dealer, then yes, it's like mini Tenhou

So I recently play with some of my friends, and this would be my highest hand ever in tenhou......if only it was finished.
Spoiler:

When I shared that in a social site, my other friend posted this (he's nanaya):

Ugh. OK. I was playing with my mahjong group last night. One hand, I managed to develop a San Anko, and I was tenpai early on:

2-man, 3-4-5 (red) pin, 1-1-1 sou, 9-9-9 man, and kan of hatsu.

Eventually, I noticed a pair of 3-pin in my discard. So the hand coulda been:

2-man, 3-3-3 pin, 1-1-1 sou, 9-9-9 man, and kan of hatsu.

To make things worse, I changed the 2-main wait to a 2-5 pin wait. Only to draw a 2-man the turn after. Of course, another player wins the hand. In short, I could have drawn a double yakuman but got nothing.

Oh the errors of clinging to tenpai. Of course, it is a risk to break tenpai.
