sad end, good guy loses

Type of thing I'm looking for
Spoiler for Death Note:

It can be any genre, A romance where the main character ends up lonely, School days type bad end etc.

Would Mushishi work (the show is episodic if you did not not)? Kind of hard to explain, but certain episodes, the main "character" (not Ginko) of the episode ends up having a depressing ending. Same may work with Kino no Tabi

P.S Sorry if this does not work.

I'd recommend:

Code Geass (Especially if you liked Death Note)
and
Chrono Crusade (I'm not sure what to make of that one, the ending.)

mmm these aren't very DIRECT "good guy loses" but are something to consider:

Fate/Stay Night-Epic adventure(w/out the traveling) about a boy who, despite his will/desires gets involved in the holy grail war and(to prevent too much spoilage) its one of those endings where he doesn't get what he wants.

Another, however from the same creator is Shingetsutan Tsukihime- With the same feel and type ending of Fate/Stay Night.

Really hard to give detailed description when a request asks for the ending >.<

I've seen chrono crusade(1 of my first animes, Can't remember the ending at all, ganna re-watch it) and fate/stay night, I'll give Shingetsutan Tsukihime a try.

F/SN is the kind of ending I want, Change that from sad ending to good ending, but sad.

I'll check out code geass to,

The good guy doesn't lose in Welcome to the NHK! nor is the ending a "sad" one, if I recall correctly.

"Good guy dies" and "good guy loses" aren't exactly the same thing.

In the case of Code Geass it is debatable who is supposed to be the "good guy" and who is actually losing.

About Chrono crusade
Spoiler for chrono crusade ending:

If you haven't watched it already, I'd recommend Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal. The origin story of Rurouni Kenshin, the former pre-Meiji Era assassin known as the battousai. The synopsis posted in AnimeNewsNetwork should give you a good idea of what to expect without giving too much away.

Hell Girl is sort of the "doomsday" theme your looking for, but I've only seen the first season, so I'm not sure if the other two seasons are like that.

If your looking for a good anime movie with that theme, I'd suggest Pom Poko. Yes, it is a children's movie (surprisingly enough). But, unlike many of the other movies by Miyazaki-san, this portrays a somewhat sad ending.

Aww shame :/

Not so much looking for "good guy loses" but "good guy doesnt win" or a situation where it could be better, maybe the hero and villain die, or the girl the hero's been trying to save is actually a villain(just thinking of examples here)

I ain't reading spoilers, And it may be hard... But try to describe the anime as best you can - And if possible without spoiling the ending, Why it's sad at the end.
