Orange (Manga)

Author & Artist: Takano Ichigo
Genres: Drama, Mystery, Romance, School Life, Seinen, Slice of Life, Supernatural, Tragedy

I searched the forums and didn't find a topic for this. The manga recently got a live action announcement and licensed by Seven Seas.

There are currently 18 chapters and ongoing at the moment including an update from last week. Anyone else read this before? It has an interesting premise imo involving time travel and shoujo themes with relationship building in particular with the main characters. Artwork is fairly decent and tolerable comedy and interesting characters. Here's the main premise of it:

Quote:
In the Spring she was 16, Takamiya Naho receives a strange, but detailed letter from herself, ten years in the future. At first she thinks the letter is a prank, but then the things written in the letter actually happen, including the new transfer student that sits next to her in class, Naruse Kakeru.
The letter reads just like her diary entries, down to the same characters. It is not till two weeks later, when Kakeru shows back up at school, that Naho finishes the letter.

In the letter, her 27-year-old self tells her 16-year-old self that her biggest regret is that Kakeru is no longer with them in the future, and asks her to watch him closely.

If there was one thing I learned from the manga, is that Suwa is the best guy ever.

Such a shame really, I thought they'd be going for Naho still marrying Suwa in this timeline, and Naho finally recognizing who is the person who always was by her side and thus moving on from Kakeru's death in the other timeline. Heck, I'd even settle with just the latter happening if the author was really deadset on giving Kakeru a happy ending in this timeline... but I really don't like the message the story is sending with the other Naho still not being able to forget Kakeru, even 10 years after his death AND having a kid already. Seriously, move on already...

(Yeah, don't get me started on how this even got a live action adaptation... >_>)

So yeah, I really liked this manga up to the point where it was put on hiatus, but after its continuation I personally thought it went on a steep decline. I'm hoping Re Collection would turn out differently. I mean, like Orange, it had a very interesting premise, but hopefully after it resumes it turns out much better.
