So Happy was doing that even as a baby.
So there were more flashbacks to Lisanna this episode which explains her importance in the OP. I'm guessing the next arc is going to end with Natsu accepting Lisanna's death and her vanishing from the dream world. I have no idea where GB!Lucy is going to fit into all this though.

Anyway Gildarts kind of left a very vague impression on me. Probably due to how he sounded kind of out of it in the first part of the episode. But I guess I get he's strong and a decent guy.

Also rank inflation much? It's not just one tougher than S but three tougher. That kind of made it seem less epic IMO.

Laura Bailey as Lucy, as long as she doesn't do that bitchy Tokine voice from Kekkaishi, it's all good^^.
Colleen Clickenbeard as Erza, she can be serious as hawkeye, girly as rose, and pervy as Matsu, GENIUS!
Vic Mignogna can play Loki maybe.
Travis Willingham or Chris Sabat can play Gajeel.

Having none other then Inoue Kazuhiko to voice Gildarts was a damn good choice. Just his appearance alone sceams epic, so having a legendary voice actor do the job is grand.

It was a pretty nice episode, though what i'm really looking forward to is next week. Time for the Edolas arc!

Also this episode was worth it alone for baby Happy. So damn adorable.

Gildartz shift was freaking awesome. He rocks even though he's not the brightest. Can't believe he got beat up by a dragon. At least it gives Natsu more hope.

Glad to see more Lisanna. Baby Happy was adorable as well.

Well definitely a strange episode. Introduce Gildarts as this incredibly powerful guy and then at the end show him having been brutally beaten by a black dragon. Almost like he showed up just to say "yeah that black dragon is a serious monster."

Suppose this shows having to be creative without planning long term. Figure early on when they were talking about the strongest in Fairy Tail he would have been thrown at the top without a question instead of measuring it between Erza, Laxus, and Mystogan. Even if he'd been gone for 3 years they wouldn't count him out. Oh well can't plan everything that far ahead I suppose.

Got a good flashback and showing that the death of Lisanna is still weighing down on Natsu. Should have been obvious that he'd bring up something like that since he wouldn't know about Lisanna's death. Guess even he realized pretty quickly what was behind Mirajane's rapid character shift.

Does look like things are going to be interesting. Can't imagine that all the dragon slayers are just going to shrug off this information no matter how big the risk. It's not the dragon any of them are looking for, but clues could be there.

Actually, in the manga his name was thrown out whenever they talked about S rank mages. So for the first time at the beginning of the Galuna island arc. Also, when Mystogan fought Laxus, Laxus was saying that they could finally figure out the strongest in Fairy Tail, to which Mystogan responded that it was obviously Gildartz. Of course Laxus thought he didn't count because he was absent. The author planned Gildartz from really early on in the series so it was kind of cool for manga readers when we finally got to see him in person. The anime cut all of that out though, probably because they didn't know if it was going to go on this long. It really does ruin the moment though, when it just comes completely out of nowhere. Doesn't even make much sense either, like you said. That's the anime's fault though, and not the original creator.

That said, I felt like adding a flashback here was an attempt to mitigate this by retroactively giving him character development, but I can't help but feel that it backfired and made him look even more arbitrarily thrown in.

It's good to hear that he was planned out at that stage. I guess since they probably planned to stop after Fantasia it seemed pointless to include the mention of someone who we weren't going to see. At least Mystogan made a pretty solid suggestion then about who was probably the strongest in the guild. I guess since it had been 3 years Laxus either thought it didn't count since he wasn't around or that he might be dead so it didn't matter.

My bad though. Seemed like Gildarts had just been tossed in randomly, but good to see he was planned to come into the picture.

But yeah must have been a world of shocks for the guy to come back like this. Lisanna is dead, added 2 more dragon slayers, Mira has seriously changed, Laxus is gone, and of course the arrival of Lucy . Take your eyes off the guild for a few moments and crazy things happen.
