So what's stopping Gregor from shooting his cannon again once he located the gallians?

He was literally using the Darcsens as a human shield to buy him time so that he can destroy the Gallian forces. It was either them or him.

That's what commanders do, making the hard choices, deciding who gets to live and die and that' what war is about which is what they showed here.

Using civilians as human bullet shield is the worst what a commander can do. At a point where Damon and Gregor are quite equal is their ruthlessness and no sense of honor.

Commanders have a heavy burden but nonetheless civilians casualties have to be kept low or outside of the warzone.

QFT

Faldio was faced with a tough choice, and chose the lesser of two evils. If he had held still, he and the others would've only added to the casualties once Gregor pinpointed them. Who's to say Gregor wouldn't have still killed the Darcsens after dealing with Squad Seven and Squad One?

After all...
Spoiler for In the game...:

I also agree with your viewpoint

Tho, when I watched it, I don't feel it's that intense, maybe the funny feeling about an armored train hanging on the fragile bridge got my attention XD. I mean, I am not good at war history, but I doubt anyone used the idea of an armored train before?? Especially the train is sitting on a bridge!! "Even tho I assumed they don't have plane at that time, one lucky round from an enemy's tank and you are going to be history with your beloved train

oh yeah, the year is around 1938 in the anime and they have no plane at that time?? I know that they are living in an different world from us, but still, do planes appear in the game??

Ruthlessness? Damon? Not so sure about that. The guy doesn't even know how to fight a battle to begin with.

Well this was a "snag." The bomb was suppose to take out the train but it didn't.

The objective was to reclaim Fouzen, which they achieved. Had they waited for Welkin to make a decision, the operation would've failed, it'd remain in Imperial hands, and the Darcsens would've either be dead or enslaved again.

Eh, I believe that's a spoiler, jeroz. Can't post those here, I think.

What the hell!? OPs like that should be outlawed. Spoiling us that much. Wtf!? I don't even need to watch the rest of it since I can predict the rest of the series. And if the next few episodes are as bad as this one I might as well drop this series.

Such disappointment.

And this might've been mentioned already but I probably missed it:

Okay, so the bridge is strong enough to keep the armored train up despite getting a section blown out, but when the main cannon is fired with the cannon car rolled to its side, it should at least complete the cannon rolling over or fracture the rest of the span.

That was my big thing. Plus I like how the train went from 60 to 0 in about 0.1 seconds when the charges went off.

And so, Faldio guaranteed that civilian lives will be lost. How would you feel if your family or loved one was the one to be sacrificed, who was just a victim and not even a soldier?

I am not a military expert by any means, but a decision like this could get Faldio in real political trouble, if not military trouble. Yes, politics should stay out of war, but at the same time, politics is what ends wars.

He couldn't think of anything, so he chosed the easiest path, which is to sacrifice others and charge ahead.

The Death of Darcens by all means will not spark political controversy, If anything it would have certain citizens approve of their actions. Rosie is an example of many people that have a mindset against Darcens. Faldio had little to no time, and i bet he would pick his squad over random people any day. It is his job to get his men in and out of there alive while completing the mission. My Guess is They would have killed the rest of the Darcens as an "example" After getting rid of the Squads had Faldio Hesitated.

Oh please spare me the "If it was your family BS" because it changes nothing.

Welkin knew that Gregor was simply buying time. If he complied with him Gregor would've shot him regardless. They die, mission is a failure, city remains in Imperial hands and the Darscens end up dead anyways as they were already being gunned down to begin with.

Welkin simply didn't want to make the decision so Faldio did it for him. Did Welkin object? No. He knew it was the right decision.

Completely ignoring the fact that their mission to begin with was to take out the tank.

Largo already pointed out that the mission could go fubar any time and they all agreed that the armored tank took priority over anything else, the rest were considered decoys. Military operations never go smoothly. There's always a snag.

He couldn't think of anything because he had no time. As Faldio pointed out, the imperials have the advantage, it wouldn't take long for them to pinpoint their location and kill them which they were doing immediately.

This is war for crying out loud. Commanders always have to make hard decisions which includes who gets to die or live and that's what this episode showed. What part of that don't you understand? War is ugly.

Ah but soldiers are invincible superhumans you see who can do the impossible! If they weren't, why would FPS games depict them as such?!

Oh that's right. Reality is never the ideal.

I've already played the game so the spoiler in the OP didn't really bother me. I think HOW Alicia becomes a Valkyria is a much bigger spoiler but I won't discuss game spoilers here. The song from the 1st OP was better but the animation looked great in the 2nd OP. Shows how amazing the battle scenes could look, but as mentioned several times, the anime won't focus on battles as much as the game.

OP aside, what surprised me was Zaka's crazy knife throwing skills. Even more surprising was that they showed the knife hitting the soldier right in the throat.

As for Faldio's heroic dive to save Alicia, I'm assuming he saw the sniper ahead of time so why didn't he just shoot him? It only took Welkin 2 shots so I'm sure Faldio could have done it. Instead he yells Alicia's name to make her stop running so that he can tackle her.

And Faldio will have to live with his decision. Welkin couldn't think of anything better, so he was partially to blame. Of course, if we see a remorseful Faldio next episode instead, hmm... how do I make the next best move to get into Alicia's pants, then I might have a little more sympathy for him. Unfortunately, I bet the latter will happen.

If you separate humanity from war, then all you are left with is a war machine.

changed it from the game, but the general development was still the same. next ep is the beach ep? woo. especially since they decided to include Susie and Edy!! i thought the way the game executed this arc was a bit better, since it showed the ruthlessness of the empire when they torched the camp after they lost the battle. of course the anime could have done it this way to villainize Faldio, though he'll get enough of that later..

it seems that they're delaying Mulbury Shore as much as possible. possibly a 16 or 17th ep development.

Well the main reason for it is actually demonstrated during one of the missions where you have to hold off Selvaria from an objective while you get to another. Even though Valkyria are machines of destruction, they still have a few issues when you blast them with consistant mortar fire. They may not die from it, but they can't kill much if they're kept in one spot and can't see any targets.

Strategy is pretty much the only thing which will keep you alive against one of them.

You're being unreasonable. What was he supposed to do then? What would YOU do? Don't attack and let EVERYONE die?

Stop the moral BS when you can't even understand the situation they were in.
