From the part in episode 2, when they were talking before just before Noel came back and told them about the ghost, it appears that Kureha doesn't know either. But whatever it is, it is the reason that Kanata, a bugler, was sent there instead of some other type of specialist. That makes me think that it has more to do with the legend than a new outbreak of war.

It certainly does, but that's up-and-coming 17-year-old star Yuuki Aoi, who was Murasaki in Kure-nai, and is now playing Mina Tepes in Dance in the Vampire Bund, Ichigo in Yumeiro Patissiere, and Riko in Anyamaru Tantei Kiruminzoo, as well as Noel here. That's important or leading roles in four shows at once. Wow. She has enormous range and ability, and producers seem to love her:

Chihara Minori, who played Nagato Yuki, is doing a nice job with a different voice starring in Chuu-bra, as well as playing Teresa in Seikon no Qwesar.

I've noticed that I'm paying more attention at the backgrounds then I am at the characters, I really love, and the same the details especially the azulejo although I've noticed that they're repeating the same patterns all over the town.

Besides there is just a fine line between bad and good when playing a wind instrument. All she really did here was sharpen the notes so it sounded right. She already had the tune down and it was just a question of hitting her notes. Already had an edge with hearing notes that well (a talent I would have liked to have had when I played). It was kind of abnormal that she was still that bad with so much going for her.

Though a good lesson that when you need to get better chat with a blacksmith . I could have built up so many skills over the years that way.

Was a bit rude to go out and play when Noel was sleeping though. Guess she forgot that whole let her rest bit . But I suppose when you have a breakthrough hard to resist.

Too bad about the ocean though. Sucks for the dolphins and all the creatures that were living out there.

In this episode of So-Ra-No-Wo-To:
1) An old man giving a blowjob (that man is a glass craftsman... sorry folks...)
2) Epiphany solves everything
3) Tanks doesn't kill people, people do

Spoiler for eps4:

The thing about the lens
Spoiler for lens:

As for Kanata
Spoiler for kanata and the bugle:

More foreshadowing, hints at the past, so long and thanks for all the fish. When are we going to be privy to the information that Kanata doesn't know...?

It seems that Noel is one of those stoic characters... and sleep deprived like Nagato Yuki for example.

Spoiler for episode 4:

Spoiler for kanata and the bugle:

If she is serious about wanting to learn to play an instrument, she needs to dump the bugle and get a real trumpet which only differs from her bugle by its ability to play more notes through it's 3 valves. Bugles are a simple but limited instrument as they are designed to be played while riding a horse in a calvary charge or running through a battle field on foot. There are very few songs that can be properly played with one which is why all military calls are specifically written for a bugle's limited notes.

The more insteresting thing hinted at, over the last 4 episodes, is Kanata's ability to recognize individual notes by simplying hearing them which already puts her ahead of many muscians. She's been able to use it to track a small flying target through town and now act as quality control for high quality optics. As her ability keeps helping out in the plot, it's obvious that it will play an even more important part latter on.

I'm wondering who's building the Dragon if they are building the Spider.

What i meant isn't the lens itself, but the very precise manufacturing system to make them. Something like the system having to be calibrated by computers up to 0.00000000000001 degree precision.

Yup, Kanatah's world is Warhammer 40,000 alright...

As we all saw, the tank's system goes through some sort of optimization/calibration process when new lens is installed, so that could mean the software is smart enough to adapt to somewhat inferior lens as long as it's good enough (i.e. doesn't have to be manufactured all that precisely)? Rather useful feature when spare parts are scarce and their future supply is uncertain, huh?

It is the sniper system, which probably require the lens to be perfect for the CCD or whatever they use to properly recognize things...........

Still doesn't rule out future advancement in software compensation.

And military hardwares are not necessary spec'ed balls to the walls. Tolerances are set at just adequate levels to allow performance, mass production and durability balance. Having them too tight hurts the ability to improvise replacement in field or it means they jiggle out of spec easily when in use.

You have to bear in mind the setting of Sora no Woto states those are old lost technology. There won't be any windows update. Also, we know about tolerances today but in this anime, maybe they don't. Relax. It's an anime.

Again, about the lens:

Google around a bit. People are even nowadays grinding lenses and mirrors for telescopes by hand, and get great results.

Its just a matter of effort and cost.
A modern DSLR lens assembly has 6-25 lenses in it, all coated. And may cost as little as $100.
Milling a lens to top quality by hand may take a week or so of work for a single lens. And skill. So if you would have a craftsman mill your lens per hand, it would be unpayable...

But if no alternative is available, and manual labor is cheap, there is nothing that prevents you from going that route.

The point kankyo and I was trying to point out was that the system apparently can adjust to inferior lenses to a degree, while you suggest it can't. That's all.

You don't need an internet connection to install your new mouse or RAM stick. There's a reason why the GUI clearly showed "system optimization".

The problem they had with the lens is that they didn't know the specific concentration/distribution of Na2O and MgO. Somehow, it is possible to compare these stats between lenses through the sound that they make (pitch, timbre, etc.). So, with the help of a musical genius and much trial and error, they were able to produce a close enough match. This is very acceptable, since even something as complex as life may have started from random collisions between self-assembling molecules, and then proceeded to evolve to more complex and stable or more reactive systems.
