Not exactly. The three doing the flanking are Hermes, Alex and Hector (or is that Hannes?). Cezary, Herbert and Ramal are fixing.
If it can help here is a character chart with the names and faces (missing the five unlockables: Muusad, Emile, Knut, Audrey and Lynn).

Gerbil (Gerubiru) is the name of the Batomys is the Japanese version. I guess "gerbil" just didn't sound fearsome enough for western audiences ^^

My biggest regret is that I'll never get to see Wendy in a zettai ryouiki uniform like the rest of the female cast.

But three person moved around to her back when Faldio only calls for two. And I can't help but here, "Hermes, Hector!" or "Nils, Hector!" Lol. Did he say the third person's name?

Yeah that's a huge shame. Next to Edy, she was the one character i wanted to see in that attire.

In both version Faldio has gathered information about the valkyrian as his studies are archeology. In the game he came to the conclusion that Alicia is a Valkyrie because she opened the door of the shrine. In the series many incidences happened but there were more shown open as Alicia has a higher regeneration and also makes ragnite react (currently passive).

I do not have the feeling that it is a bigger difference from the game version.
Both end up with the high casualties Selvaria has brought up since she has intervened active in the battles. As a counter reaction someone takes the responsibility and the risks and shoots at a possible valkyrie. No matter how you view it now both ideas - sniped or shot from behind - are insane and crazy.

In the game he came to that conclusion because he went through the bloody ruins and learned everything that Max learned from them as well. You do remember what Max went looking for in there yes? It isn't only history. It would inform the welcomed Valkyria of their origins and of their powers if they hadn't learnt them already through experimentation. It would be pointless for it to do less, and, more importantly, it wouldn't need nearly so much damn space to tell their history. There's an entire underground complex in the ruins, and writing along every section of the walls.

Here he has fairy tales. Fast healing. A few stones that glow when put in engines glowing for a girl occasionally. Gee, who knows what potential reactions/mutations humans can have from generations of exposure to ragnite? But no. She's obviously a Valkyria!

Yes. Of course. I too would shoot the woman I loved based on such solid evidence as that! Faldio did it so it is AWESOME and CORRECT!

How is looking at carvings in a ruin any less "fairy tales" than actual evidence like fast healing and a reaction with ragnite that nobody else has?

And that's the point right there.

How is looking at carvings in a ruin any less "fairy tales" than actual evidence? It's the idea of having historical and archaeological evidence alongside observation and hard-headedness.

While the results are the same in that Faldio comes to the same conclusion, in the anime he has less of a foundation from which he arrives at it. Couple this fact with how he has been fascinated with Alicia for so long, one would at least expect him to at least hesitate on shooting the object of his affections. And one can probably say that he does hesitate, which brings me to another point: wiped out squad or not, such a turn of events is very significant and drastic.

Because of all this, the whole scenario is doubly crazy; in fact, the only way the anime can justify such a progression is if it treats it as precisely just that, in whatever dramatic manner it wishes to pursue.

And how is fast healing and reaction to ragnite evidence if you don’t have access to the knowledge that let’s you know about it?

The ruins were closed to everybody but someone with the blood of the valkyrur. Inside the valkyrur of old engraved everything concerning their own kind. Everything that is written in the ruins is knowledge that non-valkyrur have no access to.

The only thing that is known about valkyrur is the legends of old. Legends that the victorious and secretive valkyrurs fabricated themselves.
Without the ruins Faldio neither has the means to confirm Alicia is a valkyria, nor does he know how to awaken her.

That's why destroying the ruins to make a corny Alicia x Faldio scene was such a big plot error. In the game Faldio has ample time to explore the (intact) ruins while Welkin and co are retaking Bruhl.

Woah, so many Fabio defenders o_O.

The creators should of spent more time showing Fabio obtaining knowledge of Valkyrias instead of the drawn out 6-7 eps of the love triangle.

This is the only way we can assume Fabio learned about it and that is pretty weakkkkkkkk.

Spoiler for fabio:

If only Fabio wasn't busy rescuing everyone, shooting down all the bady guys, giving great teacher onizuka type speeches to everyone, wooing Alicia, etc. He might have of have time to study up on Valkyrias.

Again folks, we have absolutely no evidence supporting that Faldio indeed recognize Alicia as a Valkyrie or even considering its remote possibility. He just shot her due to battle fatigue, that is it. This is what this episode had shown us, nothing more.

Should further episodes tie in with the fact that Faldio shot Alicia in the faintest hopes of resurrecting Alicia's inner strength as a Valkyrie, this episode had utterly destroyed that potential due to the way of the script's presentation.

But, Tak, he did wonder about that very possibility (ie.: Alicia being a Valkyrie) - as the looks he kept giving the ragnite fragment last episode implied. It's very flimsy, but we cannot say it was not there, at all.

Still poor writing, but at least it was somewhat hinted previously...

Yes, but the main point had always been, he did not shoot her with the intention of waking her as a Valkyrie. If it had been, this script had destroyed just that potential by virtue of this episode's presentation.

Tak, rewatch the episode again
- He noticed the valkyr shield and lance during the briefing with the officers and Princess Cordelia.
- Before he shot at Alicia we also see in a flashback, that he saw the lance and shield

Result: in desperation he risks ones life to save a dozen of life and therefore he pulls the trigger.
His face expresssions shows too much desperation but the flashbacks we see him together Alicia makes me sense that he knows what he is doing and that his actions won't be forgiven.

I do not say that Faldio is unguilty and his actions should be tolerated but to keep an understanding why he reacted this way it is from my point of view and a reason why he did act the same.

edit: sorry for the many corrections.

We were given no evidence of Fad's knowledge of their link to Alicia.

Out of desperation yes. Convinced of solid or even remote evidence that Alicia is a Valk? No. Would this be explored in later episodes, probably, but this episode had already destroyed that potential regardless of a possible proper explanation in later episodes.

Even if he had figured out she was a Valkyrie, it still doesn't not explain why he would shoot her, as the only place he could find out how to make her powers come out, would have been via the ruins. So many plot holes and terrible script writing.

Uhm. Not really. The ruins were only a sacred place (ancient shrine) where the Lance and Shield of Selvaria were store.
It is actually not a place where Valkyries awake their power. But in real it takes other actions to awake a Valkyries power.

What amuses me a lot is that some of those are now blaming faldio that he risks ones life for a higher goal but when he risks the casualties in fouzen nobody blamed him but more agreed that his actions were correct.

Funny that it's now the opposite way.

You didn't read correctly what Justinstrife wrote.

He said the ruins is the only place where Faldio can find out / learn how to activate Valkyria powers.
Activating powers within the ruins was never mentioned, because that's not the ruin's purpose (no, their purpose is not to store weapons either).

The purpose of the ruins is to keep record of everything about the valkyrur which common people can't know (and thus only valkyria are allowed to know); that includes how a valkyria's power is awakened. That also includes the purpose of the lance and shield.

Therefore, without the ruins:
1) Faldio can't know how to awaken Alicia's power
2) Faldio can't know the significance of the lance and shield
3) Faldio can't confirm Alicia is a valkyria.

No one is blaming Fabio for risking Alicia's life for a higher goal. They are just saying the anime doesn't do a good enough job of showing him having the knowledge on how to awaken a Valkyria.

1.) Reading ancient lores gives informations on this and as he studies the valkyian history he may have read through all these things. Also he is aware of Alicias rapid healing ability and also that ragnites sometimes react on her
2.) Again Reading ancient lores and also he saw Selvaria twice in Valkyrie mode
3.) He already thinks of her as a descendant of Valkyrie for a few episodes ago. But this is the point where he takes the risks and shoots
