Need a new anime suggestion

Ok so im looking for a short series to keep me entertained while waiting for my weekly fix of new Haruhi and Spice and Wolf. Im looking for something fairly mature with good art (and a little bit of action would also be a bonus).
A few along the lines of what im looking for that I have seen and really enjoyed have been,
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Black Lagoon
Kaze no Stigma
Chaos:Head
Elfen Lied
Serei no Moribito
Mushishi

Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou(13 episodes) should be right up your alley but then you might have already watched it. Also, you might like Kino's Journey, Haibane Renmei and the currently airing Bakemonogatari. Each of them has 12-13 episodes format.

I'd only have a look at my recommendations if someone seconds them. Each have twelve episodes with nice animation (or artwork as you say) that'll fit right in with you.

Loveless

Tsukihime: Lunar Legend

Kurozuka

REC is just right for you.

Thanks for the great answers, looks like theres a few here to interest me.
Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou, Bakemonogatari and REC seem to be just what im looking for so i'll be sure to check them out.
Kurozuka and Haibane Renmei also look ok if I run out of things to watch.
I've seen Tsukihime....it was ok, nothing special and I think I will pass on Loveless and Kino's Journey (but thanks for the suggestion anyway)

Was planning on watching Umineko no Naku Koro ni but I need a break from the series for now as I've just watched the first 2.
I have seen Mononoke a few times, its amazing.
Also I actually did mention Chaos:Head in my first post

For sure the Natsume Youjunchuu series, and I'd also recommend Ghost Hound.

How about:

- Murder Princess? It only has 6 episodes.
- Shigurui (12 eps); Mezzo DSA TV (13 eps); the OVA consists of 18+ materials - not recommended if you are not 18 yet;
- Karas (6 eps)
