Anime suitable for group viewing?

Hi,my friends are coming in a few more days.I would like a list of suitable animes for around 3-4 people marathon style.Big problem is,they like only mild (comedy,romance) and they want new animes(not more than 10 years old).Any suggestions? Keep low on the comedy,romance and absolutely no ecchi.People these days are hard to satisfy...

Wait so they only like comedy and romance or it can't have that much comedy or romance?
If they like comedy good crowd pleasers are:
Sayonara Zetsubou sensei
Full Metal Panic:Fumofu
Lucky Star

If not maybe try Last Exile, the animation is good enough to draw people in and the plot is good especially early on. If I'm getting the jist correctly it sounds like you are more into anime than your friends, Last Exile actually has a pretty good dub to (pretty much the only one I'll watch) so it makes it good for beginners.

Tie them down and force them through a Clannad marathon. They'll all be crying by the end of it.

For an action anime, I feel inclined to recommend Shakugan no Shana, but it does have some romance elements to it. Fate/Stay Night is also another fantastic action anime, and the romance elements aren't shown until the end of the show, and the comedy is relatively low.

Well... some possibilities are:

Read or Die

Soul Eater (has a few PG-13 fanservice scenes in the first three episodes- mainly bath scenes- but these pretty much go away and don't commonly reoccur)

Full Metal Panic The first season is a combination of action. drama, and comedy. The Fumuffu season is nothing but comedy, but has no necessary plot revelations, (it's more of a side season then a sequel) so you can skip straight to The Second Raid season which is drama and action, very little comedy.

Fullmetal Alchemist (either the old one or the current Brotherhood version).

Chrono Crusade

And although it's not very actiony, I think Cross Game is one of the best anime to watch in a group. I'm pretty sure it's not what you are looking for, but I thought I'd mention it just because it's that good.

Cowboy Bebop is popular with most people and is probably worth a try if they haven't already seen it.

Last Exile seconded.

Can you give us more of a sense of what they do like?

Hi,

How about:

- Nodame Cantabile;
- The Vision of Escaflowne (it's older than 10 years but this is truly a classic, so it's timeless;
- Ghost Hunt;
- Ghost Hound;
- Monster (may be a bit too long for some; 74 episodes);
- Detective Conan (TV, OVA and Movies);
- Witchblade the Anime;
- Natsume Yūjin-Chō (Season 1 + 2);
- Darker than Black;
- The Twelve Kingdoms;
- Fullmetal Alchemist;
- D.Gray-man;
- Claymore;

I'm not sure if this event has passed, but here are my recommendations:

The best choice is Full Metal Panic (first season), in my opinion. It offers everything pretty much--action, romance, and comedy, also very well combined. I also second Fate/stay night and Shakugan no Shana for the same reasons as FMP. Claymore also works, but the aforementioned are better (in my opinion).

I would have to recommend against Kara no Kyoukai, The Twelve Kingdoms, and Chrono Crusade. They are good anime, but may very well be hit or miss, which is not good for group viewing.

If you want something with a less-than-linear story, then I would recommend Ga-Rei Zero and Death Note. Even if they don't like the anime presented but are given an opportunity to think on it, then they might still be interested. Which is why I will also recommend Samurai Champloo.

I think he meant they don't want a "romance anime" but they don't mind an action anime that has a bit of romance mixed in.
