Sometimes I wonder if parents care at all. I'm glad my 8 year old sister didn't turn out this way.

Well, going by l33t speak, 56074 is as close as I can get to shota with just numbers, which would be May 6th, 2074. You've got a while to wait for it, it seems.

On topic.... finding things "cute and worthy of protection" seems to frighten some insecure types who'd rather shout a lot and headbutt I guess....

Oh my God, this world is so unfair. Not only am I most probably not going to live till then, it's a holiday that occurs only once in a millennium!!! Maybe I should just feel fortunate that I at least have a chance to see it.

Don't worry I am declaring 2/7/10 to be the first annual Shota Day.

True, but it's the closest thing I got from a speedy Danbooru for "thumbs up" XD

And if we're going by the character design definition, canon age is sort of a side consideration.

... although I do know a girl who's that old and doesn't at all look it.

I apologize if my accusations were too uninformed. I was trying to make a point that this thread may upset some viewers.

Hmm... since some countries date format is day/month, that means 10 November is also a loli day. So, will there be another thread by then?

They are well ahead of themselves >_< It's just wrong as well.. I have never been like that, it's never really appealed to me. I'd rather look my age or younger!
Kids try to hard to be sexy..

Loli day?

Ugh, this is probably one of the most ridiculous things I had ever heard since the anounce of Jackass the movie (no ofense, it's just my opinion ).

Seriously loli comes from the word lolita which means Teen or Liitle girl very seductive which has its origin in the book "lolita" from Vladimir Nabokov, loli doesn't comes from the word lolikon (correctly spelled Rorikon) which ofisially is another word for pedofilia (and no, I'm not exagerating, google it and you'll see that I'm right).

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm fan of anime little girls like Vita and Suiseiseki, and I had read some lolikon mangas, but my regard is that people has a very wrong definition of the word loli here. >_>

If you want to get really technical about it, Lolita is a girl's name. It's just that nobody in their right mind names their kid that anymore.

I suspect that loli was shorthand for lolita at one time, but at least in the English speaking anime fandom, the two terms have diverged signficantly. This sort of thing happens - pork originally meant the same thing as pig, for example. And I'm not aware of "loli" actually being used in English outside the anime fandom, so the original definition is pretty close to dead at this point.

I'd be interested in knowing if the term still carries sexual connotations in Japanese though.

(Technically, the modern usage of "lolita" is a deviation too. Before said book, it was just a girl's name. The book kind of killed that usage since nobody names their daughters that anymore.)

(Edit: left some bits and pieces of an earlier draft here after my my point... move along.)

No... just don't pull numbers out of the air - it vaporizes your point There's a wide range of age/sex/etc here on this forum.

Back to point and speaking to the general air - I'd like to know why every time we discuss anime lolis... some people insist on dragging in Real World issues when what most fans really enjoy are these little cartoon fantasy characters in anime. Often the naysayers can't even agree on a definition of "loli" (at least one that makes sense). Its a fashion, its a look, its a drawing style, etc. People who throw stones without a clue just look stupid.

Time for someone who instaled this in his own username to share his opinion.
Twelve simple reasons of why this trent is so spread.

1) In the old days marriage in a young age was very normal. Especially for girls. So, for some oldies this is not weird.

2) ???????????

3) In modern times kids really mature mentaly faster than the previous generations did. Because they are far closer to technology like the internet and television has far more variety than before. Thus they are viewing things and events none of thirty and older could dream of knowing in his/her youth.

4) Capitalism spares no one. Many fashion labels turn even little kids into fashion victims. "Get them while their young". Thus, the trumpy dressed little girls with a ton of make up and a look like they own the world.

5) It is true that biologically girls mature during puberty far faster than boys. This turn from kid to woman is fast and leaves an impression of sudden sexuality burst.

6) Sexual liberation. In a few years, porn turned mainstream and free. It does kinda affect the way teenagers think if they see porn all the time. I mean, many were afraid of sex before because religion made it look satanic and the lack of sexual education made many to have weird ideas about it. But now, it is clear as day.

7) Feminism is at a spree. Women want to be more active and agressive. Even sexually. Man is no longer the hunter.

8) Most anime are produced by middle aged men who saw women turning from passive housewives to out going party girls in a few decades. This is presented in an extreme way in their works.

9) Little girls are easier to trust someione and be contented. Being still not binded by work and social restrictions they are easier to be very friendly and go to places no mature adult would go. Many males love that in girls. Being able to please with a few lolipops and luring them into their houses is of course far easier than buying diamond rings taking them out in expensive dinners and dressing in expencive clothes just to impress them.

10) Most of the people who are fanatic fans of this are generally antisocial, unemployed or generally unliked by others around them. They turn to 2D lolis because it is a dream world were they are loved no matter how dorks they are.

11) Lolis are still pure and innocent and that makes far more contrast with oppai experianced women. Many prefer the first to the second.

12) Pedophilia is taboo for most. Taboos attract better than mainstreams.

There are probably more reasons but I can't think of any.
