Where the Wild Things Are

Directed by Spike Jonze

Release date(s):
United States:
October 16, 2009
Australia, New Zealand:
December 3, 2009
United Kingdom:
December 11, 2009

Spoiler for Promotional Poster:

Considering the book was only ten pages long, it's safe to say that the script is basically from Spike Jonze's imagination using Mr. Sendak's premise. I look forward to it.

^ Heartily agreed. This book brings back fond memories of my childhood and, since I've largely enjoyed most of the work of Mr. Jonze, I'm curious to see how he interprets this book, and forms it into a feature length movie.

I knew there was something I forgot to do, and that was to create a "Where the Wild Things Are" Thread....

I am very excited for this film (which is why I have had it mentioned in my location description for the past 6 or more months), and having been for several years now. I read part of the initial screeplay 2 or so years ago, and even if this version is different from what I read originally, I still have great hopes for the film (in many respects, this is the film for me this year).

If nothing else, the trailers are great, the costumes and animation look amazing, and the music is quite beautiful.

That being said, Sendak choose Jonze for this project, and has acted as producer and consultant for the entire project, so, no matter what, this is fully approved by the original author/storyteller (a recent LA Times article showed Sendak literally gushing over Jonze and the movie).

I can't wait for this movie, but I have to admit that I'm a little apprehensive as to how they are going to turn a 12 page book into an hour and a half movie.

i'm looking forward to this movie. i haven't read the book in general but that won't stop me from enjoying the movie.

it's probably best if i don't read it though. i might start complaining, saying it's all wrong and not like the story in the book.

The author was a part of making the movie and he said that he really enjoys it.

It'll be hard to complain regardless, since the book is only ten sentences.

I remember getting to meet the author in first grade, he gave us all free copies of the hard cover.

It looks interesting. I remember the book from when I was little so I am naturally interested in seeing it. I doubt I will make it this weekend though.

It LOOKS like a loving rendition of the book, recalling the illustrations quite nicely.

OTOH... I find no compelling reason to see it at all. I imagine it will be a "must see" for those and their children who read the book. Seeing the "wild things" rendered in live-action might be a bit scary to the really small ones though.
