I can only hope that what we've seen was only a trailer of some kind. Because the opening looked exactly like the old short flash animations I saw a few years ago.
Then suddenly the "It's not a Borg Cube, honest", and the credit sequence appeared, looking really good. It would seem particularly pointless to have that quality of animation purely for the credits if the rest was old flash animation style... |

Haiyoru! Nyaru
I wanted to post this in 'current series' http://forums.animesuki.com/forumdisplay.php?f=51 but it wouldn't let me, so since there are still upcoming episodes since it is a series of shorts, I guess it is appropriate here too.
I did not see a thread for this anime, but I found it pretty interesting and am enjoying it now. The longer OVAish thing is http://animesuki.com/series.php/1620.html and ANBU/umai teamed up to do it. The full title is Haiyoru! Nyaru Ani and there are 9 shorts in it. So far 3 of the 11 episodes in the TV adaptation have been done by AnimeOne: http://animesuki.com/series.php/1738.html and the full title is Haiyoru! Nyaruani TV I haven't read the manga this is based on, I saw a picture in a review blog and it looked cute. Reading up a bit though, IT IS BASED ON CTHULU. I haven't gotten around to reading the Cthulu Mythos, for which there is no excuse since Lovecraft's base material is now free as part of the domain. For anyone interested in reading the source material for this anime I suggest: http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Category:Cthulhu_Mythos For simplicity I'd probably just call this Haiyoru! although Nyaru is also good because that's the name of the girl figure. She is based on Nyarlothotep who is apparently the central deity mischief maker in the novels, apparently outranks Cthulu and actually messes with mortals more, possibly Cthulu is more notable because of the name being associated with the RPG or something. There's also a movie adaptation coming out (by the guy who did Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth I think) of Mountains of Madness where we get to see little Cthulu tentacle babies. Good times ahead. |

I ended up making a new thread about this without knowing about this one: http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=100149
For anyone who'd like to know, the 9 OVAs are out at http://animesuki.com/series.php/1620.html and 6 of the 11 TV episodes are out at http://animesuki.com/series.php/1738.html |

Be curious to be able to read the novels themselves in English ... the anime eps I have seen are ... well ... weird. Not good, not bad - just ... weird.
Part of me wishes it could have been given a "normal" treatment for a half season anime instead of these little Flash based snippets. Maybe they are running this as a test of sorts to see of a half season would "work"?

Okay ... Episode 6 had me in stitches!
If the novels are like that it would be a very funny read! The previous 5 episodes were sorta blah in comparison.... Pity.

Annddd ... that's a wrap. I wonder if this thread should be moved to the Completed Series section?
Anyhoo ... a nice ending with a little bit of a stereotyped "d'awwww" moment. ![]() I really would like to see these novels get their own season....
