You don't know this but you've actually touched upon a running gag on this forum. A lot of other people have also noted how Touma is more Gar in this show than his own, leading some to jokingly speculate that it's because this is a side story from Mikoto's perspective, so we're seeing Touma through "Biri Biri Vision".
