What exactly do we need to create a popularity tournament?

I don't know if this is the right forum, and I don't know if this has been asked before, but what are the basic things one needs to create an online popularity tournament like ISML?

I was thinking of SaiGAR, which was back then considered the male version of SaiMoe, but it got discontinued, so ISML and Bili Bili (AFAIK) are there to stay.

The usual format I see in ISML is "voting 2 out of x" in the preliminaries, then 1v1 KO format in the playoff rounds.

Is anyone interested in making another SaiGAR, or do you know anyone who is interested in doing such a thing?

Again, sorry if this is the wrong thread.

Well if you just want to do a small tournament with a few hundreds votes, I guess you just need a forum post announcing it happening, having people vote under that post, and a few people doing the count.

However for anything over 1000 votes, you would want a separate website and protections so it doesn't get DDOS'd that easily. (Or you can go for something like animebracket.com and have your tournament flooded with reddit smurfs.)

You would need clear and well worded instructions(I suggest copy the main-structure from longing tourney such as ISML or JapaneseSaimoe and make you own tweaks, Bilibili did with the latter) to avoid any future drama, and IP moderation to cut out multivotes.

Also I'm not sure if Bilibili Moe is to stay, but if it do host again in 2016, I can say its gonna be really messy.

Hmm...

You might want to consider what differentiates your contest from others.

For example, there was a "MoeMash" several years back that was similar to the old whatisbetter engine. Ran constantly, which is a bit different from the current contests.

Thanks for all the advice.

For now, I'm going with AnimeBracket, I'm totally fine with reddit smurfs flooding my sub. The only problem is I'm having a hard time making a test bracket with AB.

Any suggestions?~

If you have even the slightest intention of making anything bigger than minimal you need at least:

content (who is eligible? Everyone? from last year? season? or only some hand-picked? voted? choices)
technical expertise (website, counting ballots, multi-vote checking, general security, graphics, etc)
manpower (JSaimoe tried to run with 1 person only, it failed miserably)
clear rules and structure (ISML has extremely wordy and complex rule specifications of the simplest things)

and probably half a dozen things that I forgot.

I'm doomed.

That said, what kind of shows are popular nowadays?

I'm contemplating of giving up on AnimeBracket because /r/Anime became too toxic for my taste.

Calling the mods, am I allowed to hold contests here on AS or not?
