How popular is Gintama?

I never see any sub forums for the series, it has a pretty big fan base I thought. With what's going on in the Manga right now I'm kind of hoping for one

like all the other manga, like one piece, naruto, etc, they were all on break last week due to the Japan Golden Week. we should have another gintama chp tomorrow. from what i've read online, gintama in japan does not lose to the big three shounen mangas(one piece, naruto, bleach) in terms of popularity, sales, or rating reviews. however, for reasons i'm not entirely sure about, outside of japan, gintama is not as popular or as well known as the big three. I believe that gintama is an underrated manga, because the storytelling, writing skill, and character development in gintama is, in my opinion, higher than that of naruto and easily on par with one piece, but for some reason, is not as popular globally as the big three. i can't make an honest comparison with bleach because i've never read that manga.

It's popular enough to spawn a few movies and specials.

And to get another season after being off the air for a year or two.

Popularity does not equate to getting a subforum. It is the quality and variety of discussions that determine whether a series gets a subforum or not.

Also, it's not as popular in the West as it is in Japan.

I haven't seen or read Gintoki, but still have this impression of it based on what I've heard. I've got this image of it being highly satirical and comedic. As to why it's not appreciated that much in the West:

- Art (apparently Art >story for a lot of people)
- Characters (people love eye candy)
- Action (is it as action packed as most popular shounen?)
- Story (is there a story-like progression the main character is going through?)
