episode 3 down.
still basically the manga panel for panel in moving form pretty much. I wait until they get their first manga before I decide to drop this or not.

for the episode itself, not bad. Azuki's mom had a good aura around her. I really hate how it seems Shiro is going down the same path as his uncle.

I can agree that harem, or romance-comedy anime or any other anime that depicts the main character very shy and embarrassed at properly expressing his or her love feelings is plainly frustrating and long-winded for me bear to watch.

They just beat around the bush with no progression for the character at the given moment, but this the marble sphere of reality for the Japanese otaku audience so I have to let it go.

Meanwhile, the third episode fairly and properly did a good job with the manga content. The only a change I noticed is that they skipped a line from the manga, but that's minuscule. It was done for the sake of retaining focus on Azuki's mom recounting her experiences with Nobuhiro exchanging the letters.

I noticed that this episode marks or draws the line for the conclusion of the third arc, since the prologue not only needs to introduce the main characters and their settings but their motivations to guide the story along the way as well.

Watched the three episodes of this series available today and I'll certainly be following it weekly from now on.

Episode 3 was my least favorite, the drop in animation quality didn't help, but it was still pretty enjoyable. Overall it gives me the same feeling as Honey and Clover, very similar atmosphere and piano oriented soundtrack, which is great.

What, really? She seemed liked such a fickle woman.

Anyway, can anyone who's read the manga tell me approximately how long it'll be till the character named Fukuda Shinta shows up? He's voiced by one of my favorite seiyu, Junichi Suwabe, so yeah I'm curious. The cool design helps too I suppose.

I don't get it either. They show the original covers, pirate logo and everything...so why JACK? Weird.

Big blonde hair rolls? She's hot, that lady - but the hair thing is a miss. Other than that, a solid ep though not quite as stellar as 02, for me. I really do love the energy of the boys chasing the dream - it's infectious and feels very authentic to me. I can recall many evenings talking with a buddy about future plans until the wee hours, usually terminated by my Mom yelling at us.

I also think that Masahiro's Uncle is very much a looming presence over the entire story - clearly, he was a kind of beautiful dreamer who was much adored by everyone close to him...

I can't exactly remember what chapter, though it should be past episode 10.

There was a DROP in animation quality this episode? It seemed to me to be the best of the 3 so far. Man, you guys got freakin discerning eyes when it comes to this.

I thought the same, actually - it seemed a little smoother and more detailed in this ep.

Did anyone else feel the revelation about about Azuki's Mom being Nobuhiro's sweetheart was the sort of coincidence Mitsuru Adachi might have dreamed up?

It's all about the atmosphere.
One of the coolest aspects of Bakuman was that we got to see inside the real Jump, real editors, as backgrounds and characters of the manga.
It made it feel authentic and exciting.

I too am appalled at NHK's decision to change it to Jack.
You're right that it doesn't make any difference to the story.
But it's not about the story, it's about the sanctity of the premise of the franchise, and our emotional attachment to it.

You may lack this attachment if you didn't grow up reading Jump for decades...

^ Right you are, never read jump till last year, and I only read 2 volumes just for the feeling of actual contact with manga...Still, I wouldn't worry too much about it, they'll have to address JUMP eventually.

Just watched the first 3 episodes.

I am not very impressed.
I'll keep watching because I am interested in the inside view of the industry, but so far, I find the presentation of the story very generic.

Hopefully, it'll get better when they will deal with the specificities of manga-making.

Just blew through the first 3 episodes of Bakuman after forgetting about wanting to catch this initially. My impression of ep 3?

I had no idea what they were talking about the first time I heard Jack, because in the manga they call it Jump. I eventually figured it out, but it seems like an unnecessary change. They're dropping manga names. Why can't they drop the magazine name, too?
