Minami-ke for Hosaka.
Detroit Metal City made me laugh a lot too.

The only one comes to mind is "Great Teacher Onizuka" aka GTO.

Ex-gang leader wanting to become a teacher (to woo female students).

Completely forgot it and second that recommendation: GTO is simply amazing. The only complain I have about it is that I wanted more!

Wow, I dunno' how I forgot about Great Teacher Onizuka. I watched the whole series a while back. Pretty good! I was disappointed when it ended...

I just finished Nyan Koi! It was like Seto No Hanayome + School Rumble. I look forward to season 2.

Now time to pick another anime from all these suggestions!

Dokuro-chan was explosively funny! Shame they didn't make anymore of that show (but it's probably because they had to cart the writers off to the funny house.)

Nyan Koi was awesome,
Detroit Metal City was not... Too obscene/crude. I didn't really find it funny...
Dokuro-chan was crazy violent, lol...

Do I need to watch the previous Full Metal Panics before I watch Fumoffu?

You'll probably enjoy Fomoffu more if you watch the first FMP! but it isn't required imho. Fomoffu is pretty much episodic and doesn't fit into the FMP! storyline if I remember correctly, the only thing you'll miss is character development.

While it would help to watch the first season, you don't necessarily have to. In a nutshell, the main character (Sagara Sousuke) is an international commando who has been raised in a strictly military environment and has virtually zero social knowledge/skills, and was ordered to watch and protect a tsundere teenage girl (Chidori Kaname) with his life. Since she goes to school, he enrolls in the same school. She knows about his mission and his background, so while she understands his eccentric behavior, she doesn't necessarily condone it. Some romantic tension, with Sousuke's superior officer (Captain Teletha Testarossa, also called "Tessa") creating a love triangle. And that's about all you really need to know for Fumoffu.

It should be noted it's not just quirky, wacky Japanese humor, but pretty accessible humor. And yes, I "lololol"ed while watching it

The shows that always make me laugh no matter what are Gintama and Onepiece. I enjoyed school rumble very funny (especially hanai and harima).

I never watch dubs but I highly recommend Gakkou no Kaidan ADV dub. Though the dub rewrites some of the original script for comedy.

Quote:
In the dub dialog changes from serious to tongue-in-cheek where characters often break the fourth wall, make pop culture references, and engage in brief exposition. For example, in the first episode, when Hajime encounters Momoko for the first time, in the Japanese version, he says "She's beautiful"; however, in the ADV dub, he says "Giggity giggity!" (a reference to Glenn Quagmire from the animated sitcom Family Guy).

Hilarious stuff.

Natsu no Arashi! is make by the same guy who made School Rumble, I think it's pretty funny.

And yeah, Azumanga Daioh and Minami-ke are funny too. If you don't mind manga, you could try Yotsuba&!, which is really, really funny.

Seto No Hanayome, that series seriously had some major LoL moments.

Golden Boy, Classic and pure awesome if you like perverse humor.

GTO, another classic.

Oh man Golden boy is a must. it has everything ull ever need: comedy, tits, and manliness.
also gintama is definitely a good one its like a spoof anime, ull have to grit your teeth and bear with it when ur just getting into it but once u get the backgrounds on all the characters u start to really love them and when you get used to the type of comedy they use u start to like it even more. the funny thing about gintama is that its like a crazy ass comedy show but every 20 or so episodes they have like 5 episodes of where they get serious and down to business, its pretty cool like that.
ones that werent listed that id recommend is Today in class 5-2, not the 20 some episode tv series but the 4 episode ova, its so gooood. also Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei and bakemonogatari, both made by shaft (very good company). Bakemonogatari not only has witty comedy (which i like very much) but a little action and supernatural things. the name translates to Ghost Story

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensai is amazing if you like your comedy black. Very, very black.

Inukami is also freaking amazing, although it might be warned it can be somewhat lowbrow.

And yeah, I'll add to the Minami-ke season one recommendations.

Dokuro-chan is lolworthy indeed! Although Gintama might not be to your taste, it's one of the best running comedies for me.
