Am I the only one feel the "Alien force turns out to be miner/scout"cliche is used too much?

Well,Muvluv is the one of the first SF game to use that,so that's okay

And then Warhammer 40k used it TWICE,Necron and Tyranid(the latter is the worst offender,50000 light years wide fleet as fucking scout?)

And then Infinity,District 9 and countless more.

Well,it's there is show how fucked humanity are(Or how fucked humanity fucked themselves),so that's okay if you want maximum despair

I remember a National Geography "documentary" about the possibility that any alien meeting humanity on Earth have a high possibility to be a mining/resource gathering operation all along. Think about it, for a military vanguard, going so deep inside uncharted territories requires a mind boggling BIG logistic chain to sustain such a military force, let alone an occupation force. It only makes sense for such a technologically advanced civilization to rely on automated drones to be able to sustain the energetic and material demands of their interstellar/intergalatic civilization.

To be fair, we'd probably do the same thing; I'm watching Space: Above and Beyond, and it's noted that the first humans to encounter the Chigs were resource colonies.

It's a kinda hit and miss show, but had some pretty awesome things, such as LTC McQueen training himself to take down Chiggy von Richtoffen, though I loled at AOCS still having legacy Hornets in the 2060s.

Started playing the game, and am not using a walkthrough for my first run. Sumika is a ditz and Meiya is such lol and no common sense at all.

Talking about Space: Above and Beyond (I have the whole series on my portable hd), in canon, the Silicates were formerly a working force created by humans of Earth. Even in Blade Runner the Replicants were synthetics sent to remote colonies for the same reason (and their shorter lifespans added with intense working conditions is likely to be a failsafe in case they are harboring insurrection ideas). So yeah, sci-fi litterature had it covered even with Earth civilization.

Think about it, WHICH man in his right mind would be ready to leave home, family AND friends, and a comfortable lifestyle, to mine fucking Helium 3 on the Moon or some resource on Alpha Centauri or any extra solar colony? I mean, sure, most of us had the dream to be the space equivalent of Captain Cook or Cortes, but not to be the scientists in US Outpost 31 . And I highly doubt that money could cut it, and corporates would not want to do it, especially with the possibility of a critical technical problem or worse, the humans going loco due to isolation.

No worries, you don't need a guide. Just choose what comes naturally, focusing on Sumika and Meiya first.

You have people who are natural hermits, who just want to get away from the masses of people. I myself find the need to go to where no one is within kilometers of me, and just let go. To bad I can't afford more than a few days at a time. The most interaction I want then is online, where I can cut it off anytime.

To be honest, I too would choose to mine stuff on the Moon, Mars or any extrasolar colony if someone ever offered me the opportunity. Just leave me with a sizable printed library and a reliable multimedia player, and I'll be set.

I'm all set. I got a Galaxy Note with 64 gigs of media and books. Let the Galaxy burn!

40K is older than Muv Luv....and in its case, is not as desperate as in Muv Luv since they can well....actually fight back.

Does anyone find it weird that the BETA seem to be good at fighting, for what is considered a mining force?

Also why would the BETA mine planets when asteroid belts are a much better place to look for resources?

The BETA are not that great at fighting, they are horrible tacticians and their primarily means of attack are headlong charges. The only reason why they prove so lethal is that there are frankly A LOT of BETA. Why they are so deadly individually, is probably due to the sheer gap in "technology"; chainsaws are used to cut trees, but they are also pretty lethal weapons, especially when compared against more primitive weapons. The war against the BETA is kind of like trying to stop a automated steamroller with wooden spears.

They probably do mine asteroids as well as a variety of other celestial bodies, the reason why such things are not mentioned is that probably no one really has time to investigate these while the BETA are invading Earth.

Does anyone know if there are translations for The Day After series?

Look the wiki up, the main plot summary is there. So far I only got the story transcript of Adoration up, and am working on Rebirth.

Oh yes, almost forgot to put this up. If you guys want your Muv Luv novels (not Visual Novels) translated, please vote in this link, and share with your fellow Muv Luv fans. (Making sure they are ML fans, and not FMP or AW fans...)
