Manga with music
Hey guys
I just had an interesting experience. I was reading Ah my Goddess manga, while listening to Norah Jones, and I have to say, the music adds to the relaxed and peaceful atmosphere of the manga quite perfectly. So my question is, have you come across any artist/band/soundtrack and manga combos that work well together? Of course if they happen to be seinen/josei mangas that'd be even better since for the most part I'm rather sick of shonens. |

Heh I guess its a rather unusual thing to ask for, since nobody's replied yet
Well if anyone can think of manga like Oh! my goddess then I'd love to hear about it, I'm always on the lookout for good seinen manga. I've already seen you're under arrest and Ai yori aoshi, both of which are excellent in my opinion. So I guess what I'm looking for is seinen slice of life romance? Not really sure myself

The easiest thing to do is to read manga using the OST from the Anime. That said, I've felt that Kalafina/FICTIONJunction music tend to go well with any series as long as you know which songs to play.

An interesting request … I listen to music frequently when reading mangas but my recommendations will be very subjective so do take them with a grain of salt.
Mushishi depicts a lone man travelling the breadth of Japan interacting with people who have been affected by ‘Mushi’, sentient life-forms that can be seen only by a select few. I often listen to the theme song from American Beauty when reading it. Both the song and story evoke a subdued, peaceful atmosphere which masks an underlying tension within that’s very gripping. The theme song of Requiem for a Dream goes very well with Dorohedoro. The manga has a very gritty, dystopian atmosphere that’s interjected with instances of black humour. As for the song, it’s beautiful in a very creepy, skin-tingling sort of way. My guess is that the producers of both the song and manga were on acid when they made them :P The author of Beck has claimed that he’s a huge fan of Red Hot Chilli Peppers and the band in the story was inspired by their music. I don’t know how well it works for others but I like listening to some of the group’s songs when reading it. Beck follows the story of a group of young men who join together to form a rock-band and explores the struggles they undergo as they attempt to succeed in the music industry. The story’s mostly upbeat and fits well with the tempo of some of RHCP’s songs. Nodame Cantabile (josei manga) has many classical music themes and the characters play some famous pieces through the course of the story. It should be interesting to listen to some of the corresponding pieces when reading the story (I’ve never done this myself though). Hope this helps! |
