Well, at the very beginning it's clear that they ARE trying to keep the entire thingamajig contained but with the outbreak/invasion there is just no way you can keep a cat THAT big inside a tiny bag.

As for Unicron, Michael Bay did, if my memory doesn't cheat me, say that they were not necessarily trying to go "bigger" in terms of scale for TF3, though some of the other staff members like Roberto Orci, fostered a different opinion - even mentioning Unicron by name. In this case, I think they're going more for quantity than size.

I wonder if ILM has managed to outdo itself this time - I heard they did crash a few computers while trying to render Devastator (the most complex 3D/animation model they had built so far). O_O

Yes, I'm aware of that. But the end result is that they can't and don't keep the cat in the bag. I'm talking about the movie staff using the cliched alien cover-up; it doesn't matter if the story goes that they try to cover it up (of course they would in real life), the secret still gets out. Michael Bay and the movie staff didn't use the old cliche again.

I'm not talking about size specifically though, I'm talking about having one of the most destructive and arguably most infamous Transformers in Transformers history show up to make the movie (which I'm pretty sure is supposed to be the end in the trilogy) more epic. If Galvatron was the most destructive and infamous (arguably he is the latter, though) Transformer, I'd be rooting for his appearance.

They are probably still trying to cover it up real tight (I still get your point, though). Judging by the trailer,
Spoiler:

As for Unicron, I'm afraid they changed a little too much of the original mythos (the lesser-known, movie-tied publications set aside) with the inclusion of the AllSpark and The Fallen to establish the existence of both Unicron and Cybertron. The latter was relegated to the mere status of a dying planet.

Not to mention that - this only applies to me, but you're welcome to follow me in my train of thought - Unicron would kind of remind me too much of Galactus and his minion the Silver Surfer...and there is already Sentinel prime and Shockwave (along with a sleuth of new characters) to introduce in this movie. Having Unicron on top of it all might be...a little too overwhelming IMHO.

3D trailer on Yahoo! Movies

EDIT: found a Youtube link.
Spoiler:

It cannibalizes 80-85% of the theatrical trailer, but there are a few new scenes here and there.

Linkin Park single featured in DotM, straight from the official LP channel:

Strangely demure for a movie many fear will persecute your eardrums. Anyway, the clip is TF-themed, with a surprisingly good pan of Shockwave's head - and a remote shot of Megatron transforming (hint: he has a cowl/cape to conceal his injury from RotF).

And a Yahoo! featurette for the movie - the use of real-life wingsuit-equipped BASE jumpers for the airdrop scene in Chicago.

Okay, I'm back.
Non-spoilers: Bay made some obvious mistakes and bad choices with his camerawork, it is obvious he wasn't 100% comfortable with filming 3D. Still, it is nevertheless better than any dodgy converting job, so I say it is worth paying extra for 3D. The problem is that he pulled the camera back too far sometimes, making the 3D nearly impossible to see and made the transformers look too much like toys. That's the irony, really; the Transformers actually look like stop-motion miniatures in certain shots, like we have gone back in time to the analogue age.

However, I believe the action shots were improved by 3D compared to the last two films. You can see the fights much more clearly, as Bay can't abuse motion blur. You could say Bay was forced to give us better fight scenes because he can't hide things in smoke anymore.

And last non-spoiler: there doesn't seem to be any obvious plot-holes. So I say this is definitely watchable. Not Oscar material, but not an embarrassing film by any means.

Sounds like 'Revenge of the Fallen' all over again, how weak. You know, I'm as Anti-Bay as they come, so you'd assume I wouldn't care about movies like these, but considering I'm a VFX-student (as well as an enthusiast) I have a lot of interest in seeing how the CGI turns out. I used to marvel at the things ILM could come up with, but over the past couple of years, WETA Digital has been burying their ass. I don't know, maybe it's not so much ILM's fault as it is Bay's, as that guy has no idea how to properly choreograph an adequate action sequence. I won't even bother seeing this in theatres, no way in hell. I'll just wait for the bluray rip to surface on the net in the next 4 to 5 months.

In the meantime, could you tell me if it's true that

Sorry, but if you're going to these movies expecting good plot... you're doing it wrong.

I'm only seeing it for the action between the robots.

If you're going to watch a movie directed by Michael Bay, this is what you should be expecting instead of plot (skip to 0:14) with robot action!
