Most of all, you have to be disciplined and you have to save, even if you hate our current financial system. Because if you don't save, then you're guaranteed to end up with nothing.

I downloaded it... have created a few characters but haven't started yet. First thing I noticed was the rather bizarre boob physics during character creation but that's just me Nothing looks unique about the class types, so it'll probably depend more on atmosphere, feel of the game, and grind concealment.

Most of my MMO time is still being spent playing Allods (the Russian built MMO).

I may try this out when I get home from work today. I'm looking for another MMO to play and will try anything to avoid going back to WoW again. Seems interesting enough from what I've read and it looks like it officially launches today? Guess that's as good a time to get in on it as any.

Edit: Also, any recommendations about specific classes to avoid? Underpowered, not friendly to a new player, etc?

I would probably try archer as always. I am a speed and exploration freak.

Personally, for maximum enjoyment when starting out, I suggest that the person plays depending on which spectrum he belongs to : Achiever, Explorer, CarebearSocialiser, Pker. Most MMOs have pre-programmed classes suited for that.

P.S This is more annoying than I thought. Crap ISP with crap 2Wire modem...defining applications is totally FUBAR when they only asked for ports : even TCP/IP says that the update port range is so large.

I guess I'm mostly an achiever with a bit of pk'er thrown in. I'll probably avoid playing an archer as I was a hunter for most of WoW and it sounds pretty similar. The forums are filled with tons of conflicting information as I expected though (i.e. "this class is too broken against this class" "no, it's the other way around, n00b") so I'll probably just wing it and see what happens.

Impulsively downloaded this after reading about it for the first time in this thread... and it's kind of lame. Well, it's kind of obtuse and I don't have the patience to get into it. As far as I can tell it's more of a combat/strategy/shooter game than an RPG... am I right?

The female gear in this game is sure, uh, "practical", heh. My newbie character in the starting gear can't actually even walk without panty shots.

Also I completely disregarded what I'd said earlier and made an archer. Enjoying it so far. Can see it becoming a button-mash grind later on but it seems like there's more of a pvp focus and I like the NPC that levels you to 16 so you can skip the tutorial when making additional characters.

Willing to give this a shot as well, DLing at the moment and checking up on the site. Looks like a rock/paper/scissors sort of deal with how the three classes match up against each other. Warrior beats Rogue beats Sorcerer beats Warrior. Kind of curious what nations people are picking.

You know ingame, to play well you always aim for the 3 best :

1. Best Stats
2. Best Equips
3. Best strategy/scenario (PvP or boss battles)

Unless you want to balance out the game like in Runescape and cover everything till it takes the fun out of it.

It is like resource management and playing on your strengths. I don't believe archers can't kill warriors : in Fiesta Online my Warrior always gets pwned by similar level archers armed just with godly bows with high critical & damage increases despite me having HP/Def giving equips.

As for the game....it is still not working for me. Can't connect to the update server. I think I will just play Allods.

Well, yeah, that list is kind of obvious to anyone who isn't totally new to gaming in general, heh. I wasn't looking for general advice but suggestions specifically in regards to this game to try and get a head start instead of having to figure out the system from scratch. I guess I do kind of like being completely lost and trying to figure out new games for myself though; I think I had more fun in WoW when I was learning to play and had no idea what I was doing than when I was a hardcore raider.

My current character is allied to Gevrandia (purple) because the population to fields controlled ratio seemed decent (I guessed this meant more skilled players overall instead of just a population zerg like the yellow nation seemed to have but I could be way off) and because the devious-looking leader seemed appropriate for the direction I'd originally planned to take the character. I haven't had time to finish anything past the tutorial yet though and I plan to try a bunch of other character types and nations so nothing is set in stone and I'd be more than willing to change sides if anyone wanted to play as a group.

Downloading it right now. Will probably try it out later. Haven't played an MMO in... well YEARS. Does the game have the typical MMO noobs? Can't be as bad as when I quit WoW right?

Having some issues since the install shield insists on decompressing to the temp folder.. I've got less than 1 gig on my hard drive (and more on portable drives) so I wish it would decompress to my externals instead

Well installed and tried it but I get the black screen after character creation. Haven't even started the damn thing and I get stuck there.

For those people who have connection problems, try this :

Start > Run > CMD

Type the following in sequence

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /renew

I managed to get it to update using that.

It is my belief that similar to real life, idiots do exist. So we have to learn how to ignore them.

Except that in an online game, you can easily dispense "retribution" through kill-stealing and PK-ing.

Set it to a lower resolution and texture level to see if it works. Otherwise, go Miscellaneous tab and set the Texel to the lowest.

P.S How do I change the title of the thread? I am comparing this to Allods and I don't want to make another thread.

Despite my initially positive impression I think I'm probably going to quit shortly. Reminds me of joining a battleground in WoW with a fresh lv 80 character. Can't kill anything and anything can kill you. And since the PvP battles are the only really effective way to level I see a LONG future of humiliating deaths before I get to a level where I can do anything. Can't even be an effective mining mule for people because in 90% of the battles everyone just charges in and doesn't bother with tactics so I'm left standing around holding crystals for nothing.

Also as both a Scout and Sorcerer I find it frustratingly hard to actually hit anything at all with the lag, invincibility frames, and sidestepping. Maybe I just suck but yeah...

Edit: Yeah, I'm done. Not going to waste hours dying repeatedly with no kills or standing in position mining just for the opportunity to be able to play the game for real later. I thought it might just be me but all the forum posts seem to agree that this is the standard lowbie experience.

Same here. Started playing and it seems that this game isn't grindproof.

I am going to play Allods.

I actually decided that I refused to give up and got back into this, now a member of a corps and working hard to improve. Completely different game when you're actually fighting alongside other people. Anyone else not quit this or am I the only one?

i tried it recently, made a warrior and bow scout.
Hard to hit anyone directly with the bow scout >.> unless i use an aoe attack.
Same for the warrior but i see every warrior is using that aoe smash attack so i just copied them lol.
