That and hand-drawn innards are more convincing.

Infact OVA craze of late 80s-early 90s gave us some seriously violent stuff.Since, unlike TV series,OVA gave the creators freedom from censorship, they went crazy with it and produced large quantities of boobs and gore.

Hellsing Ultimate was hardcore to the point it was utterly desensitising. I found it rather bland and disillusioning, so I stopped. Find it weird it takes so long for an episode to come out considering the standards aren't exactly that high.

On the term of most senseless violence and bloodshed? Elfen Lied.

On the term of bloodiest? Hellsing Ultimate.

On the term of storyline? Higurashi.

On the term of world mechanics? Strait Jacket.

Hold on. The intention of the manga-ka was to 'question and discuss values relating to the way in which humans divide each other by difference, as well as the belief that atrocities such as those committed by Lucy in the series are strongly influenced by the way in which people are treated by their fellow beings'. That is not senseless. It's one of the few cases someone has done a frank, honest venture with a conscience into it.

Certain episodes of Crying Freeman are also R18+.

I actually thought I could think of more but these are the only anime apart from Urotsukidoji that made me uncomfortable.

Oh, give me a break. If you think THAT is the "most fucked-up thing ever", you obviously haven't seen very much hentai.

Dude, Urotsukidoji invented Hentai. The original is always the best, the others are simply clones. It also created the tentacle rape phase.

You've never seen guro, I take it?

And no, Lolita Anime and Cream Lemon invented hentai.

Ooops, I forgot about the Riki-Oh: The Story of Riki anime from 1989. You might be familiar with the infamous live-action Hong Kong movie version (with the exploding head-pounding scene).

Between Elfen Lied and Claymore, I'm have trouble deciding which is more violent.

Personally I would like to say Elfen Lied. Claymore was bloody, but Elfen Lied was GORY. Some of you may disagree with me, but on a Blood & Gore scale of 1-10, Elfen Lied is definitely a 10. Claymore was graphic, but doesn't rate above an 8 or 9, IMHO.

Berserk and Wicked City are some of the more violent Anime I've seen.

Oh, and Genocyber: Part 1 also received the R18+ rating.

Pokémon. Every episode is about forced slavery of fully sentient creatures and then forcing them to battle for ridiculous causes (not that a valid cause would have made the abhorrent slavery acceptable). I can't prove it, but I'm sure the "trainers" even ate these sentient creatures...
