when it comes to being a Mahou Shoujo, risk of mind break is included . . .

Seems unnecessary grimderp, and brings back the classic question "why magical girl?" Seems like you can change "Magical girl" to "Titan" and the result is the same.

You understand nothing, the charm here is precisely the "Magical girl" and "suffering", it's important for it to be a magical girl

Actually I change my mind, this might be fun, if they have the teens all get eaten by the magical girls, it would be like Touhou and gappies, the character list can double as a scoreboard. The more I think about it, the more I'm rooting for the Magical girls to eat the MC, hope he turns into a BBQ.

^lol, sounds pretty disturped XD

the story seems generic
im not srue why but couldnt the editors simply create a serious, not-dark magic girl story?
i mean, the powers will be there, enemys will exist, friendship too = perfect shounen story,
im not sure but maybe they think that if it isnt dark the readers wont even read it simply because of "magical girls" into the name?

Because dark stories are what Mikage is best at writing. I couldn't even imagine a "normal" story by him... the closest thing I can think of is Ananaku, but even that has quite some twisted elements in the second volume.

Also note that this thing originally started as a music project. There's currently an EP and a mini album with songs that are (supposedly) related to the novels. (http://replicaletter.com/)

Because unlike Kamen Rider, no one can take skimpily dressed little girl serious, and magical girl is more of a porn setting than a serious story setting. I would love to see a magical girl show that is like Kamen rider, but sadly they don't make it like that anymore.

Magic girls are usually seen as representing a more happy and lighter series. Some people see magic girls as just being cute girls fighting and doing cute things. Having magic girls in a dark series is meant to create a contrast. The author is also well known for dark series.

Though I also wouldn't mind seeing more non dark serious magic girl settings.

There is Touhou, it has the "magic" part and "girl" part.

I was waiting with hope that someone starts to translate this story and I'm happy it happens so early. I'm surprised that so quickly we dive in a bleak story. I would have thought they would be captured during school.

But in any case, I don't think the magical girls are simply a plot device This may to become too repetitive for the next volumes if the magical girls are simply enemies.

So is it the Madoka-variant of dark mahou shoujo, or the Mahou Shoujo Site variant?

Eiji Mikage really has a liking for girls who stand above the others.
this type of girl is present in all his stories (Maria, Kamisu Reina or Erika Kagurasaka in F-Rank no Boukun).

Spoiler for Part 2:
