That might be true as well, that she would discard her pride for Ichika, although, it appears that she is very prideful most of the time otherwise. Nonetheless, she shows resentment towards her sister in the previous scene, and so, in my opinion, she either 1) has no pride, or 2) felt that the was entitled to use her sister's name for her benefit (or both). Since she appears very prideful most of the time, I am inclined to believe option 2.

- that Byakushiki could use 'Shining Finger'........ >_>;
It could also be the case that for tournament fighting, they are limited to make sure they do not go to unsafe levels, or it could be that for battle, they are "upgraded" to handle more load.

Agreed, however, if you believe you can defeat your enemy before he can get close, then there is no need to move and more of a need to concentrate on "sniping" your target. Also, as they get closer, your shots hit for more power and it is more difficult to dodge.

The whole deal is to actually remain far away the longest as you can, as over time the distance will shrink unless the opponent is arguably weaker/slower.
Thus, going all out and leaving no momentum serves 2 purposes: draining the opponent's shield, while staying far away as much as possible.
As soon as a ranged attacker is at least at middle range, they are safe. If the opponent is already at melee range, they are doomed to no end, even if they were unscathered so far.

That's why I said she used no tactics whatsoever. Arguably, if she was sticking with sniper and missiles spam from start to finish (with of course, taking the opportunity to keep her distance between each salvo), not even bothering with her bits, she would have wiped the floor.
*Snip for space*
I also agree that as a sniper, it is optimal to keep your distance for as long as you can. However, your tactic of spamming a melee character in this setting with missiles poses a problem: there is only a limited amount of missiles and energy the suit has. Furthermore, by spamming, he might get hit with some shorts, but the majority of the shots will miss him, reducing your offensive reserves. She was hitting with her snipe shots, which might or might not have had the same damage even if she would have spammed him.

From this one battle only, it appears that she lacks a very strong offensive weapon. Hence, continuous shots are her specialty, which she cannot afford to waste recklessly.

Also, as mentioned before, to use her weapons requires her concentration. If she was sniping and spamming missiles, she would not have been able to retreat anyway.

she might be luring ichika to come closer so she can blast it with a missile but still she's a sniper and I think it's a wise choice to not get close on your opponent. Even it it's a surprise attack because of the tactic that she make Ichika used to the 4 rifle bits and her long range sniper that Ichika would leave a blind spot knowing that he manage to close in the distance and their is no attacks left. That could also be a good tactic and it also manage to beat Ichika. It's just that Ichika was saved when the machine finally finished the settings for him. If it weren't for that. His beaten too by that trap.

Watched episode 2 last night and I felt it did improve on episode 1 a bit in some areas but overall was only above average. Houki's tsundere attitude to Ichika felt a bit off for me personally as I usually really like tsunderes. It didnt feel like she actually liked him but more of just being harsh such as rejecting him when Ichika was offering to eat lunch with her and Houki continually looking away from him.

I was quite happy they finally explained the whole IS concept and we were shown the interface but im still a bit at odds with how they can still fire live ammuntion and weapons at each other and not get hurt. I understand theres a invisible energy shield surrounding the pilot but its a bit hard to take in that its flawless in covering the entire area and every possible attack until it gets to zero.

Anyway the pace of the episode was pretty good and they werent waffling much and the animation was excellent as per usual. The battle was quite enjoyable but a bit over the top in the outcome and Ichika's amazing performance for only his second time while Cecilia probably piloted one hundreds of times.

Anyway im looking forward to the next ep!

Watched episode 2, and the word that came to mind was Dumb. The Tsundere character just isn't working. Seen it before, and its not doing it for me. Neither Houki or Cecilia holds any interest, and the main character, the words best used to describe him is, dumb shit. Sure, typical harem lead. Maybe if I hadn't seen these characters a hundred times before, they might be interesting, but these cookie cutter, paint by the numbers type characters and story, just doesn't work. Hopefully things will improve, but based on the direction, I doubt it will. I suspect it will go the route of other shows of this ilk, with the big threat, the joining together to fight it etc. The way things are going the only question really is, how will it end, and will it be worth sitting through all those episodes to find out?

Ep 2 gave good action/animation.

But , Cecilia , for a great IS pilot kinda suxx vs a new pilot. I find it so easy , Byakushiki was in default mode and then First Shift , he starts to bang. I mean , would have been better frankly if Ichika lose his first battle cuz if he was already in First Shift , he would have won so easily.
She's supposed to represent England -.- well , we see how it goes.
At the end , Harem "Start"

She isn't the representative for England, she is merely a candidate for the position. Pretty sure all the harem girls are candidates not the one representative since they are still in school.

Honestly I liked the episode, Ichika lost not because he was worse than Cecilia but because he failed to read the IS books. I'm fine with that.

Can he even read the book? As I recall, he didn't understand any terms that were presented to him when he first arrived.

Cecilia wasn't taking the battle too seriously, she was really just toying around with him as she assumed that as an "elite" she had already won.

Ichika however isn't a pushover and Cecilia didn't take things seriously until it was too late.

I am sure a certain onee-chan and tsundere childhood friend can whip him into shape so he can at least read the book in a episode or 2. Either that or he suddenly gets better with his IS through hands on experience only over the course of a few episodes

So she claims to be going for a perfect victory then misses for teh lulz? Looked more like she was a total rookie who only won because she knew her mech's abilities.

You know what does the perfect victory mean?
Ichika couldn't touched her until the last minute (and still haven't), that's the meaning of perfect victory.

So those "dragoons" don't count as apart of her?

Like doesn't "perfect" mean without losing anything? Because she lost 4 things.

Wow, the USA has at least two (one in Los Angeles and the other in New York or Washington D.C.).
US has two, the one on the west coast is obviously Los Angeles (a little below the 35° North line) The east coast one is just a bit further north - New York or Washington D.C. are much farther north. Looks like Norfolk, which has immense military significance:

About Canada, it looks like Halifax, capital of Nova Scotia:

No, that's definitely *not* Madrid (or anywhere else in Spain). You really need to brush up on your geography skills
From the three arcs going to Europe, the top-most is going to London. The second is just a little south of the first, but a good bit further east - that's probably Brussel. The third is just a little to the west of the first, but a good bit further south, most likely Paris.

Placement of the IS, according to that map only:
Moscow (Russian capital, obvious choice for first Russian IS)
Hanty-Mansijsk (second Russian IS is in a small town in the middle of nowhere)
Cairo (Egyptian capital, as would be expected for Egyptian IS)
Benin City (lolwut? IS in Central Africa? A real bad drug trip placement)
Jaipur (Indian IS, originally royal capital, now business centre)
Kuala Lumpur (Malaysian capital, known e.g. for the Petronas Twin Towers)
Changchun (Chinese IS piloted by Rin'in, biggest automobile research and development center in China)
Sydney (Australian capital, obvious choice for Australia)
Wellington (capital of New Zealand, again obvious)
Guatemala City (another bad drug trip placement... they should've at least chosen Mexico City further north)
Rio de Janeiro (famous for its carnival)
Buenos Aires (capital of Argentinia)

already mentioned further up:
Los Angeles (biggest city on the US west coast)
Norfolk (world's largest naval base, seat of the Nato)
Halifax, Nova Scotia (major presence of the Department of National Defence)
London (capital of England)
Brussels (capital of Belgium and of the EU)
Paris (capital of France)

While the placement of most IS is at least somewhat understandable, the second Russian IS was obviously placed entirely at random (they should've chosen Leningrad, Irkutsk or some other major city or military base).
Leaving out major European countries (Italy, Germany, Greece, Spain) while placing IS in two of the world's poorest countries (Nigeria and Guatemala) can only be the result of a bad drug trip

However, these IS shown on the map are only 18, and the total mentioned is 467. Also, since there's a German representative in this pic, I get the following impression: they started with the map while still giving attention as to where the IS are placed, but then ran out of time, randomly added three more IS (second Russian IS and the two IS in decrepit third world countries) and considered it done.

"Mondo Grosso", the name of the IS International Fighting Tournament that is held every three years, in Italian means "Big World".

Why is it in Italian?

also i've seen this picture: http://www.lolibaka.com/image/post/v...finite_stratos

i guess it's from the novel. my question is: why this IS is so different (cooler) than the one shown in the anime? a future transformation?
