Also, who said each line represented one IS only?

i guess it's from the novel. my question is: why this IS is so different (cooler) than the one shown in the anime? a future transformation?
First Shift, Second Shift.... Bankai!

Maybe it's prefence of the autor, or is the place where it's was first held.

you should have asked that in the Novel discussion. http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=97359

This is an anime discussion.
Also Ichika's unit just underwent 1st shift, naturally implying more. You can figure out the rest.

It's called a sniper unit, which leads me to expect that most of the units are armed with close ranged or melee combat weapons. As far as the ending: winning by technicality is still winning (even if it'd be a dirt nap for you as the real thing).

Not really, "big" would be "grande".
"grosso" is more like "important", something that's above the ordinary, so "great" or even "superb" would be more fitting (although "superb" is perhaps a bit too much again).

According to the map, there aren't even IS in Italy. However, as the map doesn't show Germany and we know that there's a German representative, it's clearly inaccurate anyway.

Yes... those IS being from other countries and being there only to keep down local riots would be the only thing that makes sense.

They're not actually called dragoons. And as I pointed out, the real Gundam comparison is "funnels."

I think taking out a couple funnels would be a good sign of nice skills. It's not easy to hit those things; nobody short of an ace pilot has ever been able to nail them in Gundam.

That's why I put quotation marks around them, I wasn't sure.

In the novels they're called "bits".

This really has potential for best show of the season.

Spoiler for ep. 2 (with screenshots):

US has two, the one on the west coast is obviously Los Angeles (a little below the 35 North line) The east coast one is just a bit further north - New York or Washington D.C. are much farther north. Looks like Norfolk, which has immense military significance:

About Canada, it looks like Halifax, capital of Nova Scotia:

Shame on them for that!

No, that's definitely *not* Madrid (or anywhere else in Spain). You really need to brush up on your geography skills
From the three arcs going to Europe, the top-most is going to London. The second is just a little south of the first, but a good bit further east - that's probably Brussel. The third is just a little to the west of the first, but a good bit further south, most likely Paris.

Placement of the IS, according to that map only:
Moscow (Russian capital, obvious choice for first Russian IS)
Hanty-Mansijsk (second Russian IS is in a small town in the middle of nowhere)
Cairo (Egyptian capital, as would be expected for Egyptian IS)
Benin City (lolwut? IS in Central Africa? A real bad drug trip placement)
Jaipur (Indian IS, originally royal capital, now business centre)
Kuala Lumpur (Malaysian capital, known e.g. for the Petronas Twin Towers)
Changchun (Chinese IS piloted by Rin'in, biggest automobile research and development center in China)
Sydney (Australian capital, obvious choice for Australia)
Wellington (capital of New Zealand, again obvious)
Guatemala City (another bad drug trip placement... they should've at least chosen Mexico City further north)
Rio de Janeiro (famous for its carnival)
Buenos Aires (capital of Argentinia)

already mentioned further up:
Los Angeles (biggest city on the US west coast)
Norfolk (world's largest naval base, seat of the Nato)
Halifax, Nova Scotia (major presence of the Department of National Defence)
London (capital of England)
Brussels (capital of Belgium and of the EU)
Paris (capital of France)

While the placement of most IS is at least somewhat understandable, the second Russian IS was obviously placed entirely at random (they should've chosen Leningrad, Irkutsk or some other major city or military base).
Leaving out major European countries (Italy, Germany, Greece, Spain) while placing IS in two of the world's poorest countries (Nigeria and Guatemala) can only be the result of a bad drug trip

However, these IS shown on the map are only 18, and the total mentioned is 467. Also, since there's a German representative in this pic, I get the following impression: they started with the map while still giving attention as to where the IS are placed, but then ran out of time, randomly added three more IS (second Russian IS and the two IS in decrepit third world countries) and considered it done.

I think onee-chan put him there so she can easily discipline him
Altough I am sure you know more about military bases then me.
I must say that not all your locations about the countries that they are in are correct as I said in a post back on page 53 (the first of the page)
These are the CLOSEST to countries in which these bases are situated, I'm not hating or bashing here or saying that I know more about which bases they are, but I think mine lie closer to which countries they are in.

Spoiler for Previous post page 53:

And maybe because I used a better picture, because the pic was Way to small I made a bigger screencap which is much clearer. (720P res.)

I still don't know why they would put one in Ireland since they already have one in freaking england....

And about the 18 bases I think those are shared bases used by multiple countries since I supose not every country can have the resources to have a specialiced IS facility so they share them among fellow nations.

Thank you for your clarification. What I am basing my assumptions on where the cities lie are by their placement on the map relative to other maps I have looked at. The longitude and latitude lines on the IS map are definitely not representative of real maps and seem to be placed their for their art.

While Norfolk is a possibility, the placement on the map seems to point more towards Washington DC as far as comparisons to other North American maps.

As for Canada, as previously mention from another poster, it is definitely New Brunswick over Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia is at the peninsula, while the IS map shows it as part of the inner continent.

As for Madrid, yes, I was not looking too closely to that one. However, the bottom most location is most definitely not Paris. It is closer to Bordeaux. The middle one could be Paris, but you are probably right that it is Brussels.

Of course, these are all based on the picture comparison with real maps. We probably won't know unless they start talking about it where the real locations are.

An even more direct homage to Gundam. (I haven't read the novels) (as I also pointed out earlier, bits were the first type of remote weapon used in Gundam; funnels became more widely used in the franchise later)

Good episode. Houki is awesome. Hikasa Youko is doing a great job too. I am also glad he lost. It would have been way to cliche if he had won so easily.

And Cecilia uses too much hot water.

Hmm... I'll take a closer look using that better map tomorrow.

um, literal translations again, huh?
there is really not that much of a difference between the two words, actually. Since they're mostly interchangeable.
Only thing is, "grosso" usually refers to something "thick", "bulky", "fat"... maybe, that's the reason I saw it written as "grasso" (direct italian equivalent for "fat") in a certain sub.
Whilst "grande" usually refers to something that's above the ordinary, like "great" or "important".

Just wanna avoid the spread of mis-information.

Default mode. Just like a company default settings and aren't configured yet.

But after the formal fitting. It enters first shift where. It's personally configured for the IS pilot. That's what I understand from the default mode and first shift.

Pretty enjoyable episode. I know Ichika's attack puts his shield energy into the strike, but I wonder, what happens if the shields of two IS collide against each other?

Never get tired of hearing the ending.
