Beach Stars

Description:
This is the story of Nanase Iruka. She's short, tomboyish, and her one joy in life is volleyball. On Iruka's 17th birthday, her Volleyball club is disbanded. Feeling somewhat depressed she and her friends from the club take a trip to the beach and discover Beach volleyball. Iruka can't wait to play and rushes to the court only to be told to give up being a player because of her short stature by the local Volleyball Diva. In a rage, Iruka challenges her to a match to prove her abilities. It doesn't look like she has a chance, but Iruka has a secret weapon, and nobody will ever make fun of her on the beach again... well... Not about her ability to play Volleyball anyway...
Genre: Sports, Seinen, Ecchi
Mangaka: MORIO Masahiro

I have been reading this series for a while and did not find any info here when I did a search.

I've read the first couple of chapters(up until the main girl played against that star), and i thought it was ok, but forgot about it. I love the art style, all the [cute] girls are so cute =03. Although, I don't tend to like sports manga where the "spunky/brash main char just loves to play the game" and that's all there is to it(which was the impression i got from it). Manga like Nononono and Kuroko no Basket are more my type. Perhaps I should give this another shot?

I read it.... and it's quite interesting.

Being the classic sports manga, with the cliches and all, it's pretty agile, you have some fanservice, but if you like sports or play some, you will find it acceptable at least.

I think that isn't a waste of time at all!.

I think that is the main question that i have.... is this really Ecchi?, at first there are some ecchi escenes, Iruka, Hayakawa, the game against the punks, etc. But girls in bikinis playing beach volleyball... isnt ecchi at all... and there is Taki for God Almighty...

About romance, Iruka and Humvee are not there for nothing.

That's why i think i like this manga, because is not the classic ecchi series, i think that is more a sports manga.

Spoiler for well, since we're in this... ch 60:

Man this manga its getting better and better, i don't like sport mangas very much but this one has something that keep me entertained maybe its the matches, the drawings or simply the characters ,also, when i saw kotomi on fire it was so memorable, it was worth all the 60 chapters of the manga... the demon has been unleashed...

Yeah, this has all the things that made sports manga fans love the genre in the first place, except it finds some way to make them feel new and exciting all over again.

Like the whole past trauma mental block thing has been done a million times before, but demon Ishihara makes that whole part of the story awesome in so many ways.

Also, lol @ the gunbuster reference on the cover of ch61

Yeah, the secret of the cliches is doing it in a smart way... this is an example of a good used cliche. BTW... Ponytailed Kotomi > Pigtailed Kotomi

Now you can see from whom Kurachi got that personality, the original bitch was Kotomi! , but i think that Kotomi will need the cool-down hug from Iruka.

Well, Iruka is like a carbon copy of Noriko-sama. But in page 4, after Kotomi's counter, you can see she is doing Nono's pose when she awakes her battle-mode.

Especially when you remember that the practical reason she shifted to the ponytail is because one of her hair ties just spontaneously exploded from sheer awesomeness.

Yeah, some of the little visual things in this manga make it so much more fun.

Like the reaction faces. I'm pretty sure 90% of the non-volleyball panels in the last chapter were reaction faces, and I loved it.

That and the fact that "Mach-3 Kotomi" had a ponytail too... it was nicely done the way she brings back her former self: she loose one ponytail and she made with the other tie a Ponytail, just like she was before the injury... probably the best moment in the manga so far.

Kurachi's face sure was priceless...

Imangascans is awesome for sticking to this release schedule. It feels like a perfect compromise between marathoning and waiting for weekly/monthly chapters.

Spoiler for 63:

I love the aesthetics in this series, the clouds of sand and what not being bat around with each spike and how brutal each receive looks, it really adds so much to a series that already excels pretty nicely on characters alone.
