Mkv editing suggestions needed

Hi, I need to edit an 720p x264 mkv file. More specifically, I'd like to remove a few segments from the file and join the rest of them into another mkv file without quality lose. After some searching on this forum, i was able to find this software called "mkvtoolnix". Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find a single button to do the task ( as expected).

So before I embark on this most likely very time consuming job and do a bunch of trial and errors, I'd like to make sure I am on the right track. From what I understand it, I might need to extract the segments that I want to keep using "mkvextract", then join them together using "mkvmerge". Is this close? Am I missing something here? Any detailed do and don'ts? Is there any other software that might simplify the task? Thanks in advance.

you do not need mkvextract

mkvmerge -> global tab -> enable splitting after timecodes, input timecodes you want to split at
start new mkvmerge gui instance, use append button to merge splitted parts back together

note that you can only cut at keyframes with this method, if you want to cut anywhere else you need to reencode and that means quality loss
