Cell Phone Suggestions - Ally, Droid, or Sidekick?
Ok, I'd like some suggestions as to what cell phone I should get. I can afford all three individually. I need a phone that can make calls easily, and can save caller names and numbers. I'd very much like internet (like the real surfing that the Sidekick gives, not some *diluted for easy cell phone viewing* stuff). Wi-Fi would be cool too. Oh, and if there was a traditional numpad as well as a QWERTY keyboard, that would be awesome. I don't mind touchscreen, as long as it isn't solely touchscreen.
I'm thinking Sidekick right now because I can add a lot of personality to it, custom covers and whatnot. Any criteria to suggest? |

If you considering the Droid, check out the Droid X, which is the next predecessor to the previous Droid by Motorola. It has a bigger screen and array of other features.
For the Sidekick... Unfortunately, Microsoft pulled the plug on it, so you pretty much out of luck in getting a Sidekick.

It was discontinued not too long ago, much to the dismay of teenage girls everywhere. T-Mobile still supports existing customers with Sidekicks, and you can still get used/NIB ones and can use T-Mobile SIM cards on them.
From a keyboard standpoint, the HTC Espresso (myTouch 3G Slide) has a keyboard very reminiscent of the Sidekicks and is one of the easiest to type on that I've ever played with. I wish I had the money for one, but even used they tend to run 300 or more... I have bad credit. I'm stuck buying a used, old HTC Magic (the Espresso's predecessor) or something... even less attractive. All the best Android phones are on Verizon, unfortunately, and Verizon service costs too damn much.

What do those of us with credit too bad for contracts do?
Trying to buy a used phone off craigslist is like pulling teeth. Yeah don't say "just buy a new one" if I had that kind of money, I would. The only new phones I can afford are dumbphones and crappy metroPCS feature phones that can't even display real web pages.

Yea, I know those phones suck, but that's one of the downsides of having crap credit, sorry. |

I need a phone that displays web pages normally and can tether with my PC. I can't get a subsidized phone on a plan so I'm stuck buying something used, and even then my money's so tight it's not funny.
But my stupid prepaid is costing me a goddamned fortune, which I could reduce to almost zero by being able to use AIM on a phone with internets. Hell, if Verizon would even talk to me without laughing themselves to death, their "all of everything" plan with unlimited data would almost be less than what I'm spending in prepaid minutes.

Droids are popping up everywhere, true, but Verizon doesn't want to do business with me. T-Mobile and possibly Sprint are my only options other than Ghettro, which unfortunately only has 1xRTT and not EVDO, and they have only fake internet on their phones with a few minor exceptions.
