Ohana should whip out her phone more; I have no idea why I like seeing her do that.

Ohana needs to learn to leave her phone on. Well, I guess in this case the script demands she turn her phone off at specific moments to create drama, so it's not really her fault. Normal people who aren't trapped in the plot vagaries of an anime just put their phone on silent rather than turn it off.

Of course, that's just my opinion, and I really don't give a damn about what 2ch or chinese forums think. But the list of shows for Fall still seems pretty unimpressive to me. My point was that if this show had aired in Fall, it would be been top of the list.
I think it's only in your own opinion. If Fall 2010 anime includes series like Ika Musume and Soredemo, then i(personally) don't think Hanasaku Iroha will be on such a high note...

And AnoHana and Stein;Gates are quite average so far (again personal opinion). Only Denpa, Nichijou, and recent eps of TWGoK S2 really be worthy of the praise this season.

That's just to point out: unless the sales proved it, otherwise your thought is only true by your own standard

And bluray/DVD orders prove that AnoHana and Steins Gate are doing very well. Hanasaku Iroha is also doing quite well. So no, AnoHana, Steins Gate or HanaIro are not average by objective standards.

And Fall 2010 was pretty damn weak. I mean the season's "top" anime was considered to be Ore no Imouto by objective standards . Or Yosuga no Sora if you want some heavy fanservice/soft core porn.

Opinions subjectively vary amongst people but if you want to talk objectively and determine things by sales/ratings/level of discussion then TWGOK nor Nichijou isn't getting much praise. Heck Nichijou got voted as the most dissappointing Spring 2011 anime. However, Denpa Onna is getting a bit of praise due to some fantastic and cute animation and the dialogue in it is making it seem like Bakemonogatari Lite. It isn't a top dog of the season however.

The big four this season are: Tiger and Bunny, AnoHana, Steins;Gate and Hanasaku Iroha when taking bluray/DVD preorders and level of discussion into consideration. HanaIro for example is the most discussed anime this season on 2ch. Here on AS personally, HanaIro was the first anime this season to get a sub-forum because it was the most discussed at the time.

And this season in general is considered to be fantastic and possibly the best since Spring 2007 by a majority of people. With anime like the above plus C, Deadman Wonderland, Ao no Exorcist, Hyougo Mono, X-Men, Showa Monogatari etc. on top of your average B-grade material (Lotte's Toy, Sket Dance, A-Channel, Moshidora, Dog Days etc), you can't really objectively challenge it by saying its bad.

It's really hard to take your points seriously when you throw out words such as "objective(ly)" out quite a number of times without throwing up some numbers.

The only link you showed got Tiger and Bunny, Steins;Gate and Hanasaku Iroha all in top 10 list (9th, 3rd , 5th), while AnoHana stands at 14th. The other show that got the sub forum here (Hidan no aria) also at 6th.

If you take the pre-order DVD/ Blueray on, then i don't think we are having accurate figure at this early stage. If we take on the amount of discussion, then pretty sure shows with more drama/ shippings on will get more posts

What kind of numbers you want? Actual DVD/Bluray figures? They are not available discs aren't out for sale. And pre-order rankings change week to week. Polls? Well I gave you one, and the only other one ones I can link since I hardly know Japanese are Sankaku related which are not to be trusted...

I am interested in finding your reason for finding Fall 2010 not-weak and this current Spring 2011 season weak though.

Didn't i point out before, "unless the sales proved it, otherwise your thought is only true by your own standard".

There's as much evidences that this show will triumph if it was aired in Fall 2011, as it will simply be "average by objective standards". For now, every claim can only be made on "personal opinions" and that's what i did

I turn off my phone before I start working too, and I'm not an anime character trapped in plot vagaries... or am I? If you can't answer your phone, you might as well turn it off so that people know immediately you're not available. I consider that an ordinary thing to do.

So your opinion is different from mine and so do others. The only thing that matters is the reasoning behind it.

Agreed. Rather that than have them have to sit through however many rings it is and get false hope I might answer. (Also: unnecessary drain on the battery)

Unfortunately real-life cellular networks aren't magical like the ones in HanaIro, if your phone is off when you receive a call, turning it on doesn't magically make your missed calls appear. So if you get a bunch of calls with the phone off and turn it back on, you won't know you got those calls!

Anyways if whoever it was had something important to tell you, they would leave you a voicemail whether it rings once or for 30 seconds. Leaving it on at least lets you see if someone called you but didn't leave a voicemail. In which case I usually send them a text saying I'm busy and I'll call you later.

That depends. The calls get routed to voicemail, which does keep track of missed calls.

Also, despite its flaws, Hana Saku Iroha has satisfied many, there's also Deadman Wonderland. Kaiji season 2 is a good adaptation and I've seen nothing but praise for it.
Steins Gate is being hit pretty hard by people who has actually played the game in Japan and in Chinese Forum there sub group subbing the story element of the game just to proof the point and treating the anime as companion rather than actualy adaption.

In you meant Fall 2010, than there are some praises and the fact that many series that debuted that season is getting a season 2 right now or later this year.

As for this season, even if there are more praises on this season's anime there is also a lot more criticize as well. Which shows to me that while the Fall 2010 line up might different than this season, it was by no mean bad as some in this forum would suggest.

If that's your opinion, I can respect that. But while you don't give a damn about what 2ch in Japan or Chinese forums think, keep in mind that East Asia is the primary ACG market. What they think and the sales over there is going to impact what studios are going make and what type of material they are going to adapt in future .

So while I enjoys this season very much, I also find Fall 2010 season to be great.

I am interested in finding your reason for finding Fall 2010 not-weak and this current Spring 2011 season weak though.

Again, I don't find Fall 2010 line-up to be week at all. Yes, the majority of line-up was different than this season, but by no mean was it weak. Your poll proofs it that this Stein Gates is amongst the most disappointing series this season at #3 Spot. The problem it suffers and was critiqued on was that the adaption was ambiguous, and lack of depth and route from the original game. DVD/BD will sell its share because of the popularity of the source material. Hell, IS got HUGE sales boost in its LN and despite lukewarm reviews in English Forum, It was well regarded in East.

But we are not talking about last season, if you want to use BD/DVD sales as indicator, I just went through past 2-3 month of sales chart in ANN, and guess, almost every week there are 3-5 Fall 2010 titles on the list compare to 1-2 from Winter 2011, or Summer 2010. Titles that were on top selling spot includes the series I mentioned. Which tells me that sales-wise, Fall 2010 is a superior season compare to the seasons before and after that. (Summer2010, Winter 2011)

With that being said, I never said that this season wasn't good, in fact, this season is DAMN GOOD but IMO and what I perceived from Asian and Japanese forums is that they are comparing this season up to Fall 2010, when before then the consensus was that Fall 2010 was one of best season in recent memory.

It seems to me that this show and anohana got lots of good review. Can someone please tell me what do they like about this series? Is it worth it to watch?. BTW, I've spoiled myself reading reviews of this show somewhere *Random* (ahem ) and I find it boring?

PS: Well, it is not actually boring but more like I don't understand the point of this show.

The two selling points are gorgeous animation (best of the season) alongside very fun and strong female lead character, arguably the best female lead of the season.

The point is dynamic character interaction based around the workplace. I'll fully admit that a series like this would flounder if the character dynamics weren't anygood. But trust me. They are.

I agree.

These are the two stand-out strengths of Hanasaku Iroha, imo.

I'm not sure why you guys are arguing about which season is better in here, but given that the majority of you don't seem to know what you're talking about as far as sales, pre-orders, and eastern reaction go, I think it would be best to just keep the discussion to Iroha.

This made me lol. Fallacy on two counts.
While I agree we should stick to HanaIro, and we end with agree to disagree, but...

Please enlighten me on my mistakes, because those are what I found in a quick research on ANN in order to counter prior argument and I never had problem shown to be wrong.

Seriously, I usually lol at people who decide to make claims without at least coming out with some facts or research materials, I don't even mind if the info were wrong because it at least "something".

If you want to make fun of people's claim, show me your own research.

BTW, no offense, but I think I do know a little bit more than your average "majority on this forum" on what the hell I'm talking about especially on reactions in East considering my Asian descent and the fact that I spend more time on 2ch, Jojo, and other Asian forums then I do in English forum and that I fly back to Taiwan and Japan to attend expos every year...

But all this doesn't matter, what matter is that I have problem with people yapping their mouth without anything concrete to back it up, I can respect differ opinions and false facts but not baseless claims and jokes.
