Unusual high amounts of lag

It might just be me, but is anybody else getting unusual high amounts of lag spikes this morning?
Last night everything was fine, but now when I click on anywhere, It's going so slow.
I checked if it might be my network or anything, but everything else just works fine!

If it's just me, I deserve to get smacked upside the head for creating a useless topic.

Sounds like the problem I had a while back. Haven't been active lately so personally haven't noticed anything.

It's happening again now, and I don't think it's my connection because other websites work fine :/

Wth is going on today? Pages keep loading and I got an error twice... bad gateway or something like that, other websites work fine so it's not my connection.

Me too, at the moment I am writing this (or shortly before). I experienced the problem in a 15 minutes time frame (maybe some automated backup procedures?), everything runs smoothly again now.

This time the cause seems obvious - for some reason the rebuilding of the search index (for Sphinx Search) seems to have had a negative impact on server performance, despite running with maximum "nice" (=idle priority) settings. Note that this problem should have lasted no more than 1-1.5 hours at most, and should not be occurring anymore at this moment (as the rebuild is complete).

One possible solution to this problem might be to change the database source for the search rebuild from the forum server itself to the slave replication server. As these two servers are at the opposite ends of the glove (Forum=Los Angeles; Slave=Sweden) the network speeds alone should throttle things more. Then again, I could also simply play with the settings a bit.

Edit:
As of this moment I'm running the rebuild again, but with setting max_iops to 25. That hopefully should throttle things a bit. Should you notice performance degradation again in the next 2 hours or so after this post, I'll try the other option (using slave database as source).

PS. the rebuilding of the search index is scheduled via cron job every Monday at 5:00 am UTC.

I'm only getting small lags when I do something or try to log on AS.

Thats normal don't worry about it. Checking your password and hashing it can be time consuming, though given the member count here it's kinda counter intuitive. Other stuff on the forum though, such a thread, are cached so if it loads slow its lag (or, some cache issue).
