More long series, less short series??

Is it me, or does there seem to be more of a trend towards longer, blockbuster style series lately? Examples would be Naruto, One Piece, FMA, PMK, and a number of others. There seems to be a lot of longer series running right now than there used to be. At least that I remember. I do like longer series, so don't get me wrong there. But I also like my shorter series as well. Sometimes a good 13-26 episode series, and an occational ova or two is a nice touch and can sometimes do more in fewer episodes than some of the bigger series can in two years.

Good example of an excellent short series was Bottle Fairy. Awesome series. Strangely enough, there really isn't any new short run series lately that I'm seeing. Not even really for the spring season either. Do you guys think this is a trend, or just something that happens to be occuring because of the fact that there's so many long run series going at the same time?

I see the trend. I am turned off by animes that list more than 26 episodes.
ie I downloaded Shingetsutan Tsukihime because it was short. Good choice.
Many of the shorter anime series I watch turn out better than the longer ones.

Series unfortunatly get long because they see money. So they just drag the story on and on with useless flashbacks or useless talk about how strong someone is *cough Naruto cough*.

Long live Short Series.

I nice little bit of information.

It's only in the past four or five years that thirteen episode series began
to become popular. What's more, it's only been over the last ten years or
so that the average length of a series reached twenty-six episodes.
If you go back farther than fifteen years, you'll notice that the average
series length was staggering, reaching numbers well past one hundred.

Short series are nice, but there are times when a good two hundred
episode series can be quite enjoyable.

One explanation I heard was that due to the economy going bad ,13 episode series were a safer bet.

I dont think there are more longer running series than there use to be. Sports animes are always long as well as some of those kids shows. A lot of those dont even get subbed. The 26 and under length series still greatly outnumber the longer ones.

13/26 eps also neatly fit into one season of anime: 1/4 or 1/2 a year respectively. It allows for neater programming schedules and things like that, I suppose.

Some series I don't mind if they're longer than 26 eps. Some I mind. Violinist of Hameln should have been a bit more than 26 eps so all the details could be filled in. Cheapskate Studio Deen. I hate ya. (The story totally kicks ass though... ;_; )

Long live long animes. Because nothing is as annoying as a very good (but short) anime, that has an open ending, it makes you scream for more, but there is none, now that's annoying.
