You and every one else need to think hard and clear why they are out there and realize why he did what he did.

Oh dude trust me I know damn well why he did it and I don't hold it too much against him, granted I'd probably do the same damn thing in his situation, except probably given it a bit more time. I still think they had a decent enough pace on the zombies that whenever they'd make it to the car they could probably break away from the horde.

I jokingly refered to him as a prick for obvious reasons. I mean how can you not feel bad for what hapened to Otis with the guy trying to do right after what he did and getting screwed over like that.

Way I see it, Shane still wants Lori. Being the big hero and getting what Carl needs to survive wins him browny points in his eyes. This'll no doubt be the first step in a downward spiral for him. He's gonna get more paranoid and agitated because of this and anyone who gets an inkling to what might have really happened is gonna be in danger

Even with all the excuses you can make for him, he could have at least shot the guy in the head

They would have been attracted by the smell of none-decaying flesh and fresh blood. Remember, the zombie that hanged itself attracted enough other zombies after he died to have his legs mostly devoured.

Well, in season 1 they did cover themselves in zombie guts to hide their living smell.

Note the other dead bodies around them on the highway (especially the ones Daryl put himself and T-Dog under). Their scents were masked under it all.

I dont know if he did the right thing to make the fat meat as a bait. He should have reserve the last flare for their exit at the medical trailer and their car should have closer by pushing it by hand.
