Not sure what exactly you want to see there but here is something:

Air Gear
- roller skaters in future.

Bamboo Blade
- about kendo

Suzuka - running, jumping and all other stuff like that. duno how it is called properly in english. Though series are more romance based but still have some nice sport moments.

Haven't seen the following myself yet but:
Hajime no Ippo - box

Major
- baseball

Saki - mahjong

Yawara! - judo

Track and field.

I'll have to recommend Cross Game.

Seconding Bamboo Blade, Major and Cross Game.

How about Basquatch? Mechs playing basketball; underwritten by Nike.

Big second to Cross Game.

If you're idea of sport includes highly competitive board games, there's Hikaru no Go (Go) and Shion no Ou (Shougi).

What have you seen, and what type are you looking for?

If you want something nostalgic and sentimental, like For Love of the Game, try Cross Game.

If you want something that focuses on the pitcher catcher strategy parts of the game, try Big Windup.

Most of the good ones are already given.

Slam Dunk is the only basketball anime I know. It's also one of the funniest animes out there. Can't help but laugh at Sakuragi Hanamichi.

Prince of Tennis is about bishonens playing tennis. It's absolutely hilariously ridiculously epically unrealistic. Just a sample to make you an idea :

(and there is worse, the last match in the OVAs looks more like a Naruto fight than a tennis game)

Taisho Yakyuu Musume is about girls trying to set up a baseball club about 100 years ago in Japan. It's excellent, but it's probably not what you are asking for. It lacks the "boys competing" aspect.

I second Major. And third it, and fourth it, etc.

If you haven't seen it, I consider it one of the best anime I have ever seen, regardless of genre.
