Samurai Champloo
Samurai 7
Blade of the Immortal

Sword of the Stranger ( movie )

.. Well, you've probably seen these but couldn't come up with any other. It could help if you posted link to MAL or stated what you've seen.

For 90s, go with Rurouni Kenshin definitely, the TV series and the OVAs.

For more recent ones, try Hakuoki Shinsengumi Kitan. Season two actually airs in a few days.

I would definitely second Sword of the Stranger. It has excellent sword play action.

Peacemaker Kurogane is another Shinsengumi series which I like a lot. Not all action, but some good swordplay. While it's a bit emo, Nabari no Ou certainly focuses on ninjas in the modern world. Samurai 7 is a retro sci-fi adaptation of Kurosawa's "The Seven Samurai" and is chock full or swordfights. Finally, there's a fair amoung of ninja and swordplay activity in the Sengoku Basara series.

Since you haven't seen it, I definitely second Sword of the Stranger.

Guess i could recommend Gintama . It has just what you're looking for, though the show is mainly humor based.

Ninja Scroll the movie not the series. I second Gintama and SenBasa.

Noir has a few scenes of sword fighting, (that was the first anime I finished) And it's an excellent story.

Does it have to be swords, will it work if it has some great fighting scenes with unique ninja techniques?

Try out Basilisk.

I would suggest Berserk.

A tough guy with a HUGE claymore sword.

Claymore I think you will like both of them.

Kurozuka

Youko in Twelve Kingdoms wields a pretty big sword at times.

Big second for Moribito even though she uses a spear; the fighting scenes are spectacular but infrequent.

Claymore gives you swords wielded by lovely women; what more could you want?
